OK, I came home today to some good news/bad news. Good news: the trunk floor arrived and it is the correct one. Bad news: My headers are lost somewhere. Shipping company doesn't know where they are. Argh! -Matt |

Well, it was raining too much to try to work on the trunk floor. I did manage to cut the poly-carbonate (Lexan) rear windows. I cut both at the same time but have only the one mounted. I still have to remove the other. The factory assembly weighs in at 11.4lbs. The Lexan comes in at 2.55lbs, giving a weight saving of 8.85lbs per side. That was an easy 17.7lb saving. The only thing is, I thought the Lexan would be easier to see out of. Attachment:

I decided to concentrate on the windows, in preparation for my Super Stock door panels. I pulled the glass and regulators, scraped the undercoating from the inside and repainted inside the doors. I also pulled out the door lock rods. I only want to put the one hole in the door panels for the door latch lever. The rear windows are mounted solidly in the up position. I hope to make the door 'glass' roll up and down, but the window tracks and the glass shape make doing that more complicated than I envisioned. So, for now, I mounted the door 'glass' in the up position. I have enough Lexan to do the vent windows, but I may not do them as they are so small that it may not be worth the effort. So far, nearly 50 pounds lighter. Attachment:

Yes and no, Engine and trans are together (not in car) but I am still waiting on word about my headers. I am also getting the wiring done and that also takes planning. The big question at the moment is the dang headers, I may have to get another set. -Matt |

I might plop a stock manifold and make a 2.25" head pipe for now and do the headers later. If you are waiting for Clifford, it might be a while... Did Charlie sell all the headers he had?? Lou |

Well, I dropped mine off to get ceramic coated. The shipping company they use has lost them, so I am awaiting the outcome of that fiasco. I will likely get the set Charlie has just to have something to run with. -Matt |

I have everything I need except nice weather to put the engine in. I feel that is about to change. In the meantime, I have been doing 'busy work'. I combined some aluminum, various parts from 64 to 76 Mopar, and some new replacement parts to overhaul my 65 Belvedere column. The original one weighed in at 26.5 lbs. My rebuilt one comes in at 10.6 lbs. That's a nice chunk of weight to shave off (almost 16 pounds) and it looks like a factory original floor shift column. I even have a newer, collapsible shaft in it so it's safer than the OE one. Attachment:
I was also fooling around with a hole saw, just killing time. I knocked a pound off the brake pedal. Not certain it was worth the effort, but it certainly looks faster.

Some drier weather is coming, so I should be able to get the engine/trans in this thing and still make it to Motor Mile in about 12 days. Won't be Purdy, but it will be runnin' and drivin'.

Nice progress! Hope you can make it to Motormile. Should be a good turnout and plenty of fun with the Slanted Family. (hums tune of Addams Family - doh doh doh dohnt...) Lou |
