All the doors and windows on the 65 Valiant now work, and the trunk is open. Have new lock cylinders, to install. Received and installed new windshield gasket, to check fit (good). Will do some minor rust repair in that area, prior to final install with windshield. Removed head from the turbo motor, and found problems. Was just going to freshen it up with new pistons, but found major rust in #6 cyl, and piston froze in cyl. All cyls, had some rust but #6 worries me. The engine has been on the stand, in my garage, for about 10 years. Damn Florida humidity. Will continue the tear down in the next few days. Wife back in hospital. |

Finished disassembling the 170 turbo motor this morning. Problem was not just humidity. Guess I had some coolant seepage. O- ringed block with copper head gasket. Had to remove the crank, and beat # 6 piston out. Will need to clean the block, and see if the cyl will clean up (I sure hope so). Everything else looks good. Bearings and crank, look like they were put in yesterday. Even the cam and high volume oil pump gear. I thought his engine had a Crane S-264 cam, but it had a Racer Brown SS-14. Don't remember this cam, and can't find specs. To be continued: PS: This motor ran at Bristol in the early 2000's with the turbo, then removed the turbo at the track, and installed the nitrous fogger system. Ran about 200 lbs of nitrous, before hurting a piston. EDIT: Found out the Racer Brown SS-14 cam is the Mopar performance P3690766. That is why I didn't reconise it. Was in a Mopar box, and I never looked at the rear of the cam. |

Been getting parts together. 65 Valiant: Mounted dual master cyl, and have brake line armor coming from inline tube. Have new windshield gasket on hand. Heavy duty flexplate, driveshaft loop, and linelock on the way from Summit. Not much work being done, yet. Wife still in hospital. Made an edit to a earlier post about the racer brown ss-14 cam. It is sold under the mopar performance part number P3690768 |

New EDGE "hybrid" converter arrived, today. Small pilot, large input spline, 3200 rpm for a 170, without power adder. Will stall higher with turbo or nitrous. I now have a small pilot, small spline converter, a large pilot large spline converter, and a small pilot large spline converter, on hand, good for any engine/trans combo. |

Charlie, always appreciate your youthful enthusiasm,, its like you are doing this for the first time, and at the same time you are an expert in your craft. A nice combination. You are tops at 'Forever Young'. |

It's not youthful enthusiasm. It's a sickness, SLANT SICKNESS. At my age I should be getting rid of stuff, not buying/building more. |

I disagree and commend you for what you do. I am almost 62 and am still trying to just get into this slant 6 thing. I think it helps us if we stay active and have something to look forward to. I don't want to hang around just to exist. Carry on!

65 Valiant Had installed new master cyl, line lock and new tubing from the master cyl to the junction block. Couldn't get the front brakes bled. That was a week ago, bad master, leaking down the firewall. Installed another master cyl. Not leaking but still unable to bleed the front brakes. Need to disconnect the lines from the junction block to the wheel cyls. That will require new tubing. Old tubing is somewhat rusty, so might as well replace it. While I had a little time today, hung a Clifford intake, and a set of Clifford long tube headers, to check fit and clearance. The engine in the car is just an empty 170 block with head, and will be coming out shortly. This way, if I have trouble with the turbo engine, I know these parts will fit a the car normally aspirated. Plus I want to send the headers out for coating inside and out (probably the last NOS 170 long tubes in existence), and needed to see if they needed "tweeking". |

65 Valiant, replaced the front wheel cyls, flex lines and steel lines. I now have fluid flow at the bleeder screws. Couldn't do a bleed job, as the front drums are still off. The wheel bearings have got rust on them from condensation, after sitting about 20 years. Ordered from Rockauto, today. 66 Valiant, Dropped off head at machine shop, for guides and over sized valves. |

66 Valiant: Did compression test on last years engine (still in car). 140 135 130 135 70 130 # 5 is rings and/or piston. Possibly a quick/easy fix. I have another good stock piston, on a rod in stock, along with rings, bearings and gaskets. Probably faster to repair this engine, rather then build, and install a uprgraded engine. Hopefully the cyl wall is OK. 65 Valiant: Need to install front front wheel bearings and wheels. Bearings and seals should be here, tommorrow. |
