Nother Update:

Okay today, did some trimming in the trans tunnel nothing that opened it at all. Just cut off the toyo kogyo trans mount brackets as they are of no use and in the way.
Also notched front cross member so engine will sit 1 inch lower and better clearance. It's quite stout so no harm done a piece of plate will be welded on to close the notch.
The A833 fits in, the top shift lever is a tight one and the shifter mount will require a small incision along the trans tunnel near the factory shifter hole. Its tight but will not impede my legs at all but there is not much real estate in this car.
Not a job for the squeamish its hot and dirty the cross member was not that easy to cut either.
Nect step is to install complete engine with trans, align and set it as per clearance and correct pinion angle. Im considering off setting it by 1 inch to the right this woukd help my shifter and rods as well as the huge throwout fork which I wiill customize to work with an aftermarket slave cylinder.
Fabricate all mounts weld etc.
Then all the sheetmetal work to close all of my incisions..

You should know. A Ford 5.0 in a Volvo wagon.
Mostly because a slant six wouldn't fit. :D Heck, even a V8 pushes the length limits.

Back on topic --

Regarding the RX-7, an inline 6 is remarkably ambitious. I would have more expected this swap in the long nose of a Datsun Z car, to be honest. That little Mazda rotary has gotta be one of the most compact powerplants ever built. Unless you've miraculously found a way to use a mechanical fan, I'm assuming you're planning on electric units... in which case, I wonder if two small radiators placed on either side of the engine would help...? With the engine nose poking forward between them.

Just pondering...

Mother Mopar always offset the engine/trans in her cars.

for better or worse, the Slant 6 and A833 are installed in the Road Kill 79 RX slant 6 special, Freiberger and Finnegan would be proud or falling down laughing.
Okay some hurdles, big ones too, shifter is gonna require some cutting on 1 side of the tunnel, the clutch release bearing fork pedal will be interesting.
Barring these obstacles, could swap out 833 for a A904, bridges to cross, this old rust bucket needs some welding for sure.
If it all fails, Ive got no money involved, well very little, some time and maybe some hurt feelings if it all fails.Stay tuned

Very nice progress. Thanks for sharing! My brother has had a first gen RX7 sitting in his yard in Tucson for 25 years with some wiring issues. I’ve often thought of dropping a Slant in there. Maybe I’ll ask him about it... in another few years...

I can’t wait to see yours running. At your pace that will be soon. :wink:

With the gear ratios available for the RX-7 you will really want to keep the overdrive. Unless your goals are met 1/8-mile at a time. :D
