Man, this is the most exciting find since someone found that ball stud hemi test mule in a garage! This head belongs on display somewhere. Amazing it survived. |

I think all the hammaswingas that always cry for an alloy head should step up to the plate and make an offer. |

Quote: because I am in possession of a very early cylinder head.
Would be interesting learn how you came upon this. It's certainly a unique discovery.

I have seen the video before and saw the head/valve cover but just thought it was an artists rendering. I never thought it existed. |

I'm afraid the story of how this head came to me isn't very exciting... I don't even know who I bought it from. The backstory is that I buy/sell/restore and modify vintage (and some modern) MoPars and for a living. I'm not much of a muscle-era guy but rather focus on '55-'65 stuff, and that which most consider to be obscure and unsightly. I'm always digging around for weird stuff, but I'm an appreciator, not a "collector", as I have neither the resources nor inclination. For the last several years I have been assembling parts for an aluminum hyper-pak build for my own personal purposes. I finally came upon a genuine intake, which I bought; during a telephone conversation with the seller, it was explained to me that he was not a MoPar guy, but selling the intake on behalf of someone else. He happened to mention that the older gentleman who he was selling the intake for had all kinds of old speed parts, and more slant-six items, if I happened to be interested. He said there was an aluminum head, a suggestion that I of course scoffed at, as I'm very aware of the tales surrounding the few alloy heads that exist. But... ultimately... this intermediary produced proof. And said intermediary was eager to broker a deal because the owner of the head had a bunch of obscure Chevy stuff he was after for personal reasons. Completing our deal would help unlock access to the things he was after. I don’t know anything about the old timer or where he got any of his stuff. He refused to be identified and I don’t blame him. I understand him to be cantankerous and difficult which is also unsurprising. But the intermediary and I both did what we had to do to get the head. Before anyone asks - yes, it was extremely expensive. Again - I did what I had to do. That is all I will say about that... thanks for your understanding. I guess there's no way to know for sure, but at this point I am thinking that this is the earliest known slant six head in existence - iron, aluminum or otherwise. You don't find these things; They find you. Thanks. |

I think he will be holding on to that one for a while at that price. He should donate it to Lou. |
