Quote: it seems a nice set of SS headers could be made
It could be and "will be" are miles apart, and no one has done it yet. The market is just so small.

I agree the market is small, and that's a killer. But I also see on Ebay that, for $160, you can buy a set of SS headers like I described for all sorts of mundane vehicles...like 80's vintage BMW's. Are there really that many people fixing up those heaps? For $130 you can buy a SS header for the 03-07 4 cylinder Honda Accord. It's a strange world... ![]() |

What seems strange and mundane to one is a large market and following for others. Yes Lots of ri$h folks are into vintage BMW's and lots of young people are into Honda's Both are more marketable than slants here in the U.S. Greg |

If one wants something like this to happen, one basically needs to arrange/drive the process. Prototyping, finding a mass producer, convincing them of how many people will buy (or get a group buy). I have done group buys and custom machining for Slant 6 parts before and it takes plenty of time (and some $$), and we all know that time = money. One can say "what if" or "how come" or one can work to make it happen... Lou |

My experience with projects like this is that many of the people who want the product before it's produced disappear when it comes time to pay. Lou hit it, build it and put it up for sale. If there's a market you're gold. If not......... As far as $130 "stainless" headers, well, you get what you pay for. There was a guy doing stainless turbo headers a few years ago. They were pretty pricey. Don't think it worked out. |

Quote: Is that the factory collector pipe ?
No it's not. It's a flowmaster 2 into 1 with 2 inch head pipes. My rear manifold had been cut years ago, so that is why the rear has that shape. Here is the factory head pipe.

I know the Ebay headers are cheap, and I don't like cheap stuff ( cheaply made, that is). But I'd also bet they are as good or better quality than the 'long tube' headers currently sold for the Slant Six. We had a set around 1986, I think they were Mopar Perf (?) and they were junk. Thin flanges that leaked and of course didn't allow for proper tightening when placed alongside the thicker intake manifold. That's why I am referring to OEM quality. The average Mustang or Camaro or Corvette or even Lexus has a nicely made set of 'headers'. |

I had a buddy of mine make my SS pipe for Dutra Duals, he's really good with tig welding, took us one (late) night. I had questionable SS, mildly magnetic, but I had them ceramic coated, so I expect they'll last awhile. https://www.flickr.com/photos/151192512 ... /lightbox/ Brian |

My buddy did all the tig welding. We cut and fitted pieces one afternoon and up until 3am one day. All I had to pay was for the tank of argon he used up...great deal. It's not perfect, but it looks nice. b |

You've got me curious....did he backfill the tubes with argon? I'm thinking he must have if he used a whole bottle to weld those up. |
