Quote: If Mopar had waited and done the Rampage on the stetched "grand" minivan with a v6 it might have been a decent hauler.
I'll just leave this here.

What gets me about the 3.0 diesel is I read in several articles (when it was intro'd) that it was already a proven engine, having been used for many years in Italy...and a lot of it was in commercial truck service. So I gotta wonder why (if the above is true) they didn't have all the bugs worked out by the time it was used here. |

A finance management team might have de-contented it, or maybe regulations caused modifications for the U.S. market which weren't properly proven. I have heard that many of these motors were replaced by dealerships for free and that most problems were of the nickel and dime variety, but nonetheless ruined the motor. One issue was gear on the camshafts was press fit and it often came lose. The fix at the factory cost almost nothing but it almost ruined the reputation of the motor. The commercial duty versions never had this cost savings issue. So I gotta wonder why (if the above is true) they didn't have all the bugs worked out by the time it was used here. https://carbuzz.com/news/why-new-ecodie ... ne-failure |

I'll just leave this here.Chrysler didn't have the K-car complete when the T-115 minivan was being developed. They built an engineering mule based on the L-body but they weren't able to stretch it to meet the marketing requirement for 5 passenger. It could be that parts from that engineering prototype were used to build the Rampage, I don't know about that. The S10 and Ranger were in a sales war and there was no place for the Rampage to sell as more were recognizing that the Toyota pickup was pretty good. If I haul much in the Rampage, I'll tow it in a utility trailer as a trailer handles a 800 pound load better than the bed can. I rarely haul more than 800 lbs. |
