Are the rod journals the same size on the different LA engines?
That may make a difference on the rod bolt size (length).

I believe LAs have same dimension and same rod bolts, but I have not checked. I have a partial set for a 340 that came from Seymour that I'll hold against a Slant 6 bolt, but I think they are identical.

It looks like I have 1 or maybe 2 sets of ARP 6001 "Slant 6" (not) bolts that I bought from Summit 2-4 yrs ago. My plan is to see if they will take them back and refund me so I can buy the correct bolts (an LA engine set).

Again, ugh...

According to My 2003 ARP Catalog, the 142-6002 has the same head as the SB units, they are simply listed as "SL6". The 142-6001 are listed as "6-cylinder, 170-225c.i.d.", which have the different style head, the inclusion of 170- indicates they are for forged-crank rods....the listing may be the issue here?

Acording to the arp parts on summits website the LA engine use part number 144-6001
the forged slant six uses 142-6001
The 2.2 4cyl uses 141-6001
The first 3 digits of the part number designate the number of bolts in the package.
141-6001 is 8 pieces
142-6001 is 12 pieces
144-6001 is for 16 pieces
So there is no difference in the bolts
I wonder if they are haveing a problem with the others. I don't think so, as only the slant six part number is not available at this time

Hmmm, that is a different twist and good to know. Thanks, folks. Maybe I will take my set(s) to the machine shop and see if they fit my 225 rods correctly. My shop can tell if they fit right or not. I will eyeball them too up against the 340 bolts I have here.

The "-6001" is NOT the bolt, 135-6001 is a BBC 7/16" rod bolt set. There are at least (5) different bolt-head styles with a "-6001" bolt. If You are serious about Your bottom end, You're torquing them by stretch method, and using a common bolt in different applications means a different stretch dimension regardless of the bolts "original" app & spec.
Again, I'm wondering if the listing is backwards, and are furnishing the wrong bolts for the actual app.

disregard what I said above. Here is ARB catalog. looks like the head is different. But I was making assumptions, before. Evidently incorrect ones. But I still think the OEM LA motor rods bolts are the same as a forged crank slant six.

IIRC, Doug D was instrumental in setting up the ARP slant six catalogue. I believe that he found other critical fasteners that ARP already had in production and then had those fasteners packaged in quantities that worked with the slant six motors.
Doc would be the resource that has answers to the questions raised in this thread.

Yeah I remember reading something about that. He found existing products they had made for something else that was pretty much equivalent to what a /6 takes. I can't remember whether it was head bolts or main cap bolts but DD found that 455 olds bolts would work, and the other of those bolts was a common bolt for another popular application. So they didn't have to "make" something they didn't already have on the shelf

I remember it being stated that the rod bolts were actually V8 Pontiac rod bolts that fit the Slant rods....
