A great submission Gearhead, thank you.

My block preparation is not far from complete. I have had to notch the bottom of the bore for rod clearance a little and have scored the tappet bores for added camshaft lobe lubrication. The ARP main cap bolts have been test fitted with the main caps to ensure the tunnel bore is true. The block is also modified to take a 1/2" headstud as opposed to the factory 7/16 bolt.... I am dedicated to keeping this head down. O'ringed block with receiver grooves in the cylinder head, also running a copper head gasket. ( .060' )

This combo provided me with my desired C/R (7.8:1)

Ontos (Rob) - good to see you on the site. This is Lou Madsen, also of Mopax. So far my oiling has held up fine in road course use and 6000rpm or less with 250HP on tap.

Ray, keep up the good work and you'll get to a reliable combo. Thanks for the pics.

I have a spare Slant block that I think I'll practice my die grinding skills on for cleaning it up. Anybody got detailed photos of what they have done?

I have spoken with Dick a few times over the years, but I don't really "know" him. I have had access to a machine shop of a friends for most of my racing years and have little contact with other automotive machine shops unless the owners race at the track or build Pontiacs.

I called him about surfacing my slant head before I had my milling machine...but his price was a bit out there for me at the time. His rep in Portland is quite good.

If you search my posts you will find some other interesting threads I've chimed in on...I have had to deliberately cull my desire to join in on many threads do to lack of time, and because I have written so much over the years on the Pontiac forums, and just can't spend the time educating about the basics anymore...so I leave that for others here who are quite good as well. I try to stick to the topics that are pertinent to my projects or thoughts at the time, or for which might skills or info my be of particular use and I desire to share.

I have most notably stayed out of most ignition related threads even though that is truly my expertise...only so much time in the day. For the most part, most misinformation is caught by others on threads I've read...although there is still some being passed around.

This is a really good group that tries hard to educate and teach you to work thru your problems so you understand the issue, rather than just tell you what to do. Anyway...

I have since began working on the oil pump but then ended up in NC for the winter, so I will have nothing to add to that thread until I get back.

I am thinking of building a cylinder head while I'm here in NC...but I need to find a core first since mine is 3000 miles away.

Great looking block, I have read your buildups on this and the other forum with interest. I wish you the best of luck getting that turbo spooling away reliably.

I wish it were spring and I was heading home with my cash to finish my suspension, electronic dash and injection/ignition controller...and of course, build some HP as well. I very much appreciate those who go for boost, even though I have a thing for NA for my own cars...thats not to say I won't experiment someday though!

Lou is a perfect example of what can be accomplished. I have been reading his buildups since he first started playing on the track and documentiong his work. Great job Lou...you have been an inspiration for me to stick with my Slant and Valiant for my road racing street driver project.

Thanks for the kind words. If you can tear away for a trip, I could give you a cyl head core to work with. I'm in Chapel Hill (27516) about 2 hrs from Charlotte.

The Drakes in Matthews (Charlotte burb) would have head cores for you, and you would do well to try visitng them too/instead.

Here I am again, breathing life into an old thread.

Due to go for a serious tune soon ! But to date, this new engine has held together nicely and made good power real easy. ( 297rwhp @ 16lbs / 4200rpm ) These figures were without a real good tune, and I have been battling some overboostiung issues ( Damn internal gate ! ) ... I think I have most of it sorted, I ported the gate and now run a screamer pipe which helped alot.... now a good tune is in order. More info after the tune.

On a side note : There really is nothing like this thing @ 6000rpm ! Those rods/pistons combo really love to rev.... and the induction roar that comes outta this engine is really something else. I now have a set of roller rockers fitted too ( Cox bros ).... don't know if I really notice much difference but it's done now.
