Super cool. It is 2540 with you and a full tank, or no driver, or? That is a bit heavier than I was expecting too, but not bad at all. It should be very nimble. What was F/R distribution?

Cheers,
Lou
That's half a tank of fuel and no driver.
All the stuff I chopped off and ripped out was pretty much offset by the extra heft of the Slant Six and TF904.
The truck weighed in at 2560 the day I bought it. So, 20 lbs lighter than it started.

Duh! I didn't even think to weigh front/rear... Next time out.
I can probably also weigh it in the shop. I bought six 550# (Big Boy!) bathroom scales to serve as poor man's corner scales. I haven't tried them out yet.

And next time out may be a while. It's got a nasty rear main seal leak which I have to address very soon.

For now the boost controller is unplugged which makes it default to the lowest wastegate setting. That still lets it see a few pounds of boost. Maybe 3-5 PSI max. My test and tune drive yesterday saw a peak of 1 PSI of boost at about 2700 rpm and 35% throttle. I want to get as much of the VE table worked out as I can before I start giving it more.

I couldn't resist running back out to the truck scale. Weight distribution with me in it is 60/40
1640# on the front 1220# on the rear.
What that 60/40 doesn't express is that most of the weigh is between the axles. Very little mass is in front of the front axle and even less is behind the rear axle.

I haven't really tossed it hard into any corners yet but some moderate cornering it fees pretty good. Eager to turn.

Lucky break! It turned out to be the rear section of the oil pan gasket. Easy fix since my shop made k-frame has just enough room to remove the pan without jacking up the engine.

Awesome build, that must be a hoot to drive!

Too much boost!
Well, not enough boost control... I've been trying to configure the Megasquirt boost control but not really getting any results. I want to be able to limit boost way down to make the SS10 friendly to drive on a tight autocross course. But also be able to turn it way up for the 1/4 mile. Anyway, the boost control setting don't seem to make very much difference. So to try to figure out what's going on I wired the waste gate wide open and took it around my test loop. Still building boost too fast. With wide open throttle I can see 15 PSI at 3200 RPM and start getting into boost at 2/3 throttle and 2500 RPM. I'd really like to be able to limit down to 5 PSI or even less for wet AutoX days.

This is a Holset HX35 off a Dodge Cummins 5.9 diesel. The waste gate valve hole looks tiny to me at only 5/8" diameter.
It's also a twin scroll turbine housing so the waste gate only vents one side of the housing.

I drilled the hole to 15/16" and a 3/4" hole through the divider. Also machined off the 3/16" tall lip that shrouded the opening.

Here's what it looked like originally

I also relieved the inside of the plate so the valve can open a bit further.

And took some material off the back side of the poppet and arm also to help it open further.

Now it can open about 3/16" more than it could originally.

Thanks Rob! I'm getting there.

The wastegate mods helped. With the wastegate wired wide open boost climbs about half as fast as it did before and flattens out at a little over 17 PSI. That will allow me to drive it a bit harder for further tuning of the VE table without blowing it up from overboost.

It doesn't solve my ultimate problem though - being able to dial boost way back for AutoX and also dial it way up for 1/4 mile. I now understand that the only way I will achieve that is with an external wastegate with "dome control". Fitting and plumbing the external gate will be a challenge...

From watching everything else you've done on this and other projects,... I'm confident you'll figure it out.

Yes. I have a plan and some parts ordered. Also plan B and plan C...

I guess that wastegate must be sized for an engine making substantially less power/air? Seems weird to me. I am working on a new turbo system and it will, like my 68 Dart, have an external gate. Seems that is the best way to control things, although it's more expensive and complex...
