Uh...splain me, Lucy. "I can't have an aluminum head from Indy, so I'm selling all my slant-6s because nothing can be done with them", is basically what you're saying here.

And that's not true.

So...what gives?

dan is funny that you dont understand the meaning of that. Its not about a head from indy. It is the fact that if this was a place that people go to to help expand the parts or performance of a slant 6 there would be a true effert to get major companies (Indy, e-brock, or holley) to help us. The reason I went to Indy is they are big enough but still small enough to talk to about making parts. Hey if I had old Vic's number I'd have called him.

I'm sure that everyone has their limit to what they are willing to spend on their engine, but I was under the impression that we are all here for each other to support this hobby that we enjoy. I guess that I was off the mark a bit. Hell I even asked Doc to help me with this head task. The old addge"everyone wants something for free, or close to it" lives well here. I may drop in time to time but I'm putt'n on the 1bbl and recouping my money I spent on both super six set ups on ebay.

This is a painful truth with the people who like the SL6, the engine has usually been all about economy. This is changing as we move from the "keep it running" over to the "I want to race or restore a SL6 car" type of owner.

As for the aftermarket SL6 head effort, I have presonally tried to get this effort to happen, twice over the last 15 years. Like you, I could never get good soild agreement & commitments. Hell, I had my first effort based on a $25,000.00 outlay for the first 10 heads and could not get the funds pull together. (I got about 1/2 way there)

I personally thank you for trying to get this project to go and please realize that your recent efforts helped to move the cause forward. It is sad to see that it was fustrating to you, to the point where you want to "walk away" from doing any SL6 performance improvement work.

This is especially true since an expensive custom head is probably the last thing one would do and would give the least return for the money. You also have to realize that most of us are not racers and probably never will be so to lay out more money for a custom head than we will have in the rest of the engine just doesn't make any sense. The remainder who are racers and would benefit from the project can't agree on what they want for their money.

The problem is that about 4 times a year someone comes up with the idea that we need to do an aluminum head. OK, Fine. You started off with the words "Indy Cylinder Head" which invoke strong passion out of some here for 2 reasons.

1. Russ Flagle told us to go **ck ourselves when we approached him at Clay City a few years ago.

2. ICH is overpriced junk to start with, with business practices roughly on par with Clifford Performance.

Sorry to hear that our unwillingness to hop on the ICH bandwagon has caused you to decide to sell your Slant. I will race Chevies before I will ever buy a ham sammich from ICH.

Did you ever even talk to Lou about the head project? Time to put your $$$ where your mouth is dude.

Well I wont sell my engines. I need one of them to get me to work. The carb and intake is what I mean. As far as Lou goes yup I'm waiting on more details and a price to get the money togather . I never said I wanted a alloy head to go racing. I was intending on a street set up. I never got a bad response from Russ and he said he likes the idea but it is the (profit?)market side that he didnt see clearly. So slantzilla take it easy  I'm more understanding of the issue than it might seam. This is the first place that I've heard about Indy's bad side. No real hard feelings hurt here by everyone just frustration that we don't have really cool and trick parts at our finger tips.

Russ at indy is a jerk. I know him personally and I have been to his shop many times. You always have to watch what you say around him or he will fly off the handle. Someone could slip him some paxil.

With the next gasoline price hike the daily driver slant six will go the way of the GMC 302 six. Hello Wayne Twelve Port ! The market for Ford flathead 8 aftermarket speed parts has never been better. Personally, I'd like to see a siamezed block that could accept 4 1/2 stroke crankshaft. Not that I'd buy one, but a 270 cu in SL6 is going to happen, eventually.
