Wow: thanks so much for the "step-by-step" thread, Doc! Really great to have all that info centralized in one place!

We have to thank BC Sandy for the locked thread, step-by-step format.

I think that approach makes it harder for members to comment but it sure does keep the build thread itself clear and concise, with-out a lot of 'side discussions' like we saw in the Twiggy thread.

doug the cam you picked was it reversed ground to those spec. to take advantage of the firing cycle that was in another tread? i was trying to go back to the street combo i ran 19yrs ago, it was a .030 over/ stock vavle 3 angle/ 9.5/1comp / .490lift, 270degs m.p. cam, i liked the performance it gave until i got my first oil gear failure, with help from sandy i am trying to get a comp reverse cam, 282deg/495lift/int and 270degs/468lift ex/110deg lobe sep. i am hoping this cam will be as good or better as the m.p. cam when i get the street car back on all four`s :!:

I am real interested in how this cam performs.
My guess is that is will be a little top end limited but it does have a good amount of lift on the intake valve... and I will use some 1.6 rocker arms to give it a little more.

A few more days and we will have a general idea on how this combo works.

I purchase my sets directly from the land of Oz... Australia.
Cox Bros were (are?) a US distributor as well as a few others.

After mounting the parts, spinning the crank, finding where stuff hits, take it apart and grind, re-install the parts... repeat as needed, (about a dozen times) the assembly is ready for the oil pan installation. We will leave the oil pan off until the head is installed with all it's rocker arm gear. (don't ask me why... )
Now there has to be a story there!

Sandy has done it also... I can tell!

I used to think that nothing can get dropped into the pan from the top of a SL6... I was wrong.

Pushrods can not get past the cam, the little rocker arm hold down 'thingies' are two big to get thru the drain holes but once I had to unscrew a "too loose" rocker arm adjustment ball stud and managed to drop the part into the lifter gallery... what are the chances that IT WOULD DROP THRU INTO THE PAN???? (it did)

We spent hours fishing the ball screw out thru the oil pan drain hole, we should have left the darn thing in there or just pulled the oil pan, it would have been faster!

That is why I do not put on the oil pan until the top end is "buttoned-up"!

As a young (19 yearold) marine engineer I did it on a 3000 hp Mirrlees diesel. I didn t get a lunch or coffee break for months after that. I became" the guy that dropped the wrench". It was a 7/16 BSW wrench that should not have been in my hip pocket at the engine tops during refit......

I didnt learn a thing...I put my pan on before I put the head on... <shrug>

YUP seen what a 3/8 ratchet extension does to a T50 turbine engine.
Doc is there/would there be any advantace to using a coating on the valves to help prevent carbon buildup? Ive heard somewhere that polishing them to a mirror shine really helps. Thoughts??
Thanks
Again for these build threads ( you too Sandy)
