There are just too many options out there for a simple mind like mine to keep up with. That's probably a big part of the reason 90% of my projects die on the vine...

If mine wasn't already almost done I would do that too. The big money in a kit like that is the struts. Mine already has adjustable struts on it though. |

Not much been happening last couple weeks other than gathering up front end and brake parts. Patrick got an 8 foot box and pan brake. When we decide where the motor will sit the firewall will get fabbed. I also have all the pieces for the A-arms now. Next weekend we start on getting the car back on 4 wheels.

Got the front suspension done today. Only thing I don't like is the rack placement. When we finalize the engine location we should be able to move the rack back a couple more inches, and then it will be good to go. New pics added. http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/sho ... =0&fpart=3 |

Yes, it is just a bit too far forward. If we can't move it back, we will have to extend the ends of the steering arms. I'd rather not do that as there is not much of a way to do it without it looking hilljack. Have you heard anything else from Scotty? |

I haven t heard anything from Scotty. If it took them 5-7 days to come west...Im thinking a shell on a trailer will make the trip home at least a week. That same trip I do in 2.5 days....... The seller sounds like a piece of work.....and Scotty never did his homework. Lengthening the arms will change your steering geometry..... Im working on the rack on my bogger (actually I changed the front diff from Dana 44 to 10 bolt) . The last setup worked very well. This one will too but requires some fancy bracketry. I bolt the tierod ends to the steering arms......get the toe right with the tires held in position.....the rack is straight between the steering arms in the same plane as the axle centre line. Then I make the mounts . Anything else gives me funky TiTs (Toeout in turns) |

Unfortunately I won't have the luxury of being able to get the rack back far enough to have it straight across. I am not too worried though, we did get it centered in the car, the pivots for the tie rods in the correct relation to the pivots of the A-arms, and the right height. The car will not have a lot of suspension travel, nor will it have much of a turning radius, so I am not worried too much about toe change and bump steer. A strut car is much more forgiving than a double A-arm car.  Yeah, it sounds like Scott got caught with stars in his eyes about that Sbird clone. He's usually way more thorough about setting things up. Heck, even I made it home from Seattle in 7 days on my bike, but I was snowed in in Sheridan, WY for 3, and Gothenberg, NE for 1.

I was wrong, we got the rack almost far enough back that it is almost straight across. I believe I will have plenty of room to use my deep Jeffrey pan too. Car saw the light of day today for the first time since we started cutting. We're going to finish the steering next weekend, and then start on the firewall.  Rack location:  Motor positioned and mounts tacked in. Trans mounted on a poly mount now.  Patrick  Enjoy!

Cool!....that car is starting to look tidy. I remember a conversation at Lous where Dennis said he would not install a rack. Funny how the guy who says he wont does it before the guys who say they will. |

You have to qualify that statement as to context Sandy. I will not install a rack in a car that did not have one to start with. The Daytona is originally a strut/rack car, we're just putting it back where it is supposed to be. I remember a conversation at Lous where Dennis said he would not install a rack. Funny how the guy who says he wont does it before the guys who say they will. After doing this car I am really thinking I need to convert the Duster to a tube front with struts and a rack. I like the idea of having a ton of space to work on things. Lou, give Chris a big hug for me.
