Cool, I was thinking of heading down to Redding or maybe even as far as Sacramento before crossing the mountains. The farther south, less chance of snow, sorta thing. Since we just had 7" dumped on us Monday. Redding is roughly 9 hours from Everett, probably the same from Yacutes.

Last time thru Oregon, we noticed that the speed limit had been dropped to 65. The Oregon DOT trying to save the world or something... Speed limits in California seems to be whatever you can get away with, which appear to be 80+ if you own a SUV or diesel powered F250...

If your going down I-5 look out for the CHP in Siskiyou County, near Yreka- way up North.
I think the whole counties budget is funded by moving violations.....don't ask how I know...damn straightaways.

Hey Kesteb
The speed limit in Oregon hasn't been over 65 since 1974. The 55 limit was bumped up to 65 in, what? 1987? I remember how ticked off Dad was when he sold his Beautiful 52 Dodge pickup so he could buy a 68 Dodge pickup so he could run at freeway speed, and a few months later they lowered the speed limit to 55.

So on the whole Getting to Vegas thing:

I just got back from a humdinger of a road trip.

My brother-in-law and I headed down to Keno to grab my Uncle's car trailer.
The pass wan't plowed, so we went over at low speed in four wheel drive. Slippery. Snow started below the tunnel, was close to white out for the remainder of the trip up 58, and we were on snow till a bit after Beaver Marsh.

When we got there, he wasn't home, and the trailer wasn't there.
One of his buddies borrowed it to move a tractor. We finally got in contact with my Uncle. He thought we'd said next month.
We went to get the trailer at his buddy's place. It had a flat tire. Our tire iron didn't fit. Drug it back to my uncles ranch at 30 mph with right rear mostly flat.

Changed the tire out, aired up the flat one, and stuck it in the spare position.
Still snowing over the pass. Heavy traffic, and 15 mph, from halfway house all the way to the tunnel on 58. Two plows running side by side in front of a long line of traffic.

A nice 11 hour day.

Tomorrow we're going to buy four new tires for the trailer. It has one tire that could conceivably be used as a spare. The others should be hung from a tree limb with a stout rope.

I'm beat!

CJ

I hear you on that. Left home yesterday at about 5:30 in the morning. By the time we hit Seattle it started to snow. At Olympia it was sticking and about 1.5" deep. We drove out of the snow at Centralia, then the rains started. It rained from there all the way to Waldport Or in various degrees of intensity.

I am so glad I left the Dart at home. The wipper system would not have kept up with the rain. And a long 8hr drive would have been even longer.

My Nissan Titian is getting 20mpg thou. Which is real nice.

Yachats is nice this morning. Slight overcast and no rain. I was considering going straight to Reno from here. But it sounds like the snow is bad on that route. Might go for Sacramento and take I-80 across. The wife and I will decide later today.

Strange weather, haven't had to worry about March snow since I was a kid. So much for global warning...

Allen and I got a lot of work done on the cars this weekend, most of our focus has been on the 66 Dart wagon "tow car" which we have been doing body work on for months.... primered all the bondo spots as they stood, just to make the car a little more presentable.

The race car got yet another fuel system cleaning, along with fresh gas, oil and a new battery. It came back to life with a few cranks and a roar. The NOS cylinders are filled.

We are starting our pack-up process and should be ready to hit the road first thing Thursday. Looks like we have two other Bay Area SL6 "racers" that will also be driving to LV with us.

The MATS web site is down at the moment.

I was trying to call them to ask a question.

Doc? I have a problem with my bumper. Can I run without it? If not, I'll just work my way through it...

CJ

Edit: Decided to just paint the ugly thing silver. If it would stop raining I could bolt it back up...

My dad and I should be there, but not in my Valiant....I love MATS, greatest cars on earth! I might bring some /6 parts to sell if anyone is interested in a Brand NEW Offy Valve Cover or a performance Big Valve (Ford 300 valves), Swirl Polish head let me know and I will see if we can reach an agreement...probably should have put this in the for sale section...

Hi folks...if any of you are heading down I-5 past Dunsmuir for the MATS event, I have some parts a fella would like delivered to LV, might even be worth some of my SPECIAL blackberry jam...ask Wayne about that. None-the-less, if any of you wouldn't mind toting a flyhweel-clutch assy and some small parts, would much appreciate! We're right off I-5 and I mean RIGHT OFF just south of Dunsmuir...THANKS...wb

In Vegas.

Left Yachutes on tuesday and headed to Reno via Sutherlin down I-5 to Mount Shasta CA. Turned left and went to Reno via Susanville. Spent a couple of days and didn't go broke. Reno hasn't changed much in 20 years.

Smooth sailing the whole way, central Nevada is beautiful, but wouldn't want to live there. Most of the small towns are drying up and blowing away...
