The broken piece is the accelerator pump cam. You are also missing the accelerator pump linkage rod that goes from the throttle to the cam. You probably won't get these pieces in your standard rebuild kit and will need to source them from a junkyard, a swap meet, eBay, a carb store, or someone on the board.

See the diagrams on this page.
Awsome I do have the j rod linkage all have to do is get a Carb kit, cam, and I think I found the problem. ...... a piece of silicon stuck inside the Carb where the floater is loc. Ill take a pic and show u guys tomorrow.

Good eye!

Aside: Plenty of carbed motorcycles running around without benefit of accelerator pumps.
But aren't most, if not all of those, variable venturi carbs? That type of carb does not need an accel pump.

Yes, you're right.

But have you put a Holley 1920 on your Honda step thru 90?

Nope. Throttle plate opening is not variable venturi. The plate is located below or after the venturi. Slides and other actual variable venturi types, the part opens in the venturi, or choke point.
Fopar is running motorcycle carbs without accelerator pumps with no problem. The carbs he is running are CV's or Constant Velocity carbs. The slide moves based on flow with a butterfly following the slide.
I just sold a motorcycle that had a CV type single barrel that had an accelerator pump. It was a big thumper.

The reason for an accelerator pump is to feed fuel where velocity through the carburetor can drop off to a point that the Differential Pressure at the venturi is incapable of flowing enough fuel from the metering system to maintain driveability. In other words, an accelerator pump is a patch for an engineering problem.

That's very interesting and sounds logical. Be careful about not using RTV silicone gasket maker on carb gaskets. Not compatible with gasoline.

Aside: Plenty of carbed motorcycles running around without benefit of accelerator pumps.
Yea I knew about the silicon thing, but desperate times calls for desperate measures. I needed The Sage running.

In a pinch you can make a nice bowl gasket from a really thick paper grocery bag or cardboard cereal box and an X-acto knife.

I found the pump lever the guy took it of an old carb hand it to me and said $15 is that a fair price.

That so cool! I didn't know that.

DO NOT try to use a paper sack gasket for the float bowl !!

The correct gasket is much thicker and is made to seal corectly.
