We will finish the test set this weekend to go to Charrlies!! :D Could yall answer this? The question come from a fella I will be doing a set for soon. I would do this, if yall think it would help. Thanks for any input. Let me run an idea past you. :idea: This may not be worth a whole lot since nobody else who makes headers has done it. Do you think it would do any good to run cylinders 1, 3, and 4 into the front collector and cylinders 2, 5, and 6 into the rear one? I know that would make the headers pretty much one piece and the primary pipes would need to be fairly short, but it would give you an exhaust pulse every 240 degrees instead of being scattered all over the place like we have now. Would it be worth the hassle? :arrow:

That's the firing order. As you can see when divided into two groups cylinders 1, 2 and 3 go together as do 4, 5 and 6. No need to change the cylinder grouping, it's already optimum.

Thanks Joshua for the quick response. My idea was 1,5,3, into one collector and 6,2,4, into the other. Letting the first header do it's thing then the other. What would that sound like? Would it go boom boom just a thought :? .

If you did that you'd have an exhaust pulse every 120° and then nothing for 360° in each collector. You're crowding the pulses together rather than staggering them equally.

I second that! :D

I can hardly wait to see some long tube 40" primaries with a 2.5 collector like MOPAR describes in their racing manual for the SL6.

When I was back at Chrysler with my wife touring the tech labs, they said 40" was actually the best for drag racing as well as on the street since it improved the low end torque so much. Something that Clifford shorties can't and don't do.......They said that the 40" headers even with a Super Six was out standing!
In the cold around Chicago they just ran a plate drilled/milled out with heater fittings on each end bolted under the intake.

Can you imagine a set with 1/2" thick mounting flanges 40" long with real 6" long x 2 1/2" collectors, Ceramic coated in silver? That would work sweet on my 74 Swinger...... :)

:) Mixing pulses instead of spreading them out! The NASCAR's boys and girls run better in a pack he he!!!

:? We reconfigured the front header a little and this is why! We looked at a picture of clifford shorty's when we made these. The #1 cylinder connection length pictured on the left is 26 1/4" #2 cylinder is 23 1/2' and the #3 length is 21 1/4" this is a spread of 5".

Now with my new design this is what it is!! The #1 cylinder connection length is 31", #2 cylinder 28 1/2" and #3 is now 29" longer than #2 after re-bending. Now the spread of connection length is only 2 1/2" :D Hope we can find some way to do this in the rear 1/2 of header as well. The price will be listed today here on our small message board.

With this information these headers should produce much more even bottom end torque compared to the Clifford shorties.... and hopefully will fit around the power steering in my 74......

How thick are the header flanges? Will they be 1/2" thick like the intake manifolds?

Here is a pic of the front 1/2 Installed, passing the power steering fine. Plenty of drop for the 170. Yes the flanges are 1/2" to match the intake. The ones in this picture are not the ones being used for the sale product. With these we can remove each tube as we build without the intake removal, nice for the build. :D

Speaking with Charlie we went with the 2 piece flanges like clifford and others. The 1/2" flanges used will look like the ones on my other project here. :?

Good morning all :D We finished the test set to go to Charlies for fitment in his 65 Valiant 170.

Alot more room compared to the last set. These we made out of many used flanges and tubes. The ones that will be sold, will be one tube from head to collector. :)

Moving these bends back towards the starter a little will bring over all connection length same as the front halfs length. Every time I build a set give us another way of gaining efficiency. :wink:

The rear header has plenty of block clearance in this area. :P
