Looks like a great event, Rick and all! Bummed I missed the race saturday, and that it was called off Sunday. Had a nice dinner last night with Ryan, Brian and Melissa D, and Seymour. Breakfast soon with some of the rest of the crew, then heading home. Big congrats to Frank Funk, Rookie of the Year AND Eastern point Champ! It was an "interesting" year of racing in the East to say the least... Best, Lou |

Congrats to Frank! I am sure Will has a low 9 second car. It's really good to see someone with a turbo motor in a good chassis. I am watching closely. Seymour called last night about stopping in on his way home. Unfortunately, I will be at work when he would be arriving. |

It was good to see everyone and meet some new faces. We actually learned a lot on only a few passes. We will beat this learning curve.. Thanks again. Will |

I knew the weather would be fine. The drive back was perfect. I wonder if it's raining/blowing there, Will?? I wonder if the storm will do anything much... Dang weatherman... Lou |

Been raining since we got back, the ground is saturated. My trailer sunk in the front yard, I was lucky to get it out. Starting to blow now and the power is flickering. Getting ready for a long week. Will |

Congratulations to Frank and all the racers! It's a bummer they cancelled the race today. Any day spent racing is a good day! Hopefully the weather will be better next year for the East team. Loosing Redding a couple years ago out here was a downer. It got called when Fopar, Linda and I were half way there. Everybody stay safe, and we'll get out to play again next year! Hopefully the storm won't be as bad as we're hearing on the news. Keep safe and get your cars ready! The Hooptie is in my shop for an overhaul. Hopefully I'll have the rail ready for testing before mid-year. CJ |

Yeah, 5 races cancelled this year in the East has really hurt us. Quite a few people just stopped showing up toward the end of the season. We will have some discussions at the Banquet, although hopefully this year was just a fluke. Part of the problem, I think, is that the track owners don't have as many cars showing up in general, so they are more likely to call off a race early to save themselves operating costs. At least 2 of our races could have run this year but were called the night before or in the morning (1 day of Elk Creek and 1 day of M-D fall). Can't say I blame them. Looking forward to the banquet and spring racing already! Lou |

I think that is exactly right. 8-10 people to run the races for a day and 20-30 cars showing up doesn't work good for them. The truth is most Slant racers are traveling to the tracks and are already there. If the track feels like 75% of his 100 "local" racers are going to stay home, he just cancels. I don't see any way around it. I was told by the owner of the track that he needs about 75 cars just to break even. Rick |

I think that Elmer was verified to cancel on sunday.. It rained for me most of the way home and I probably passed 500+ power and tree trucks in convoys going to the east. As I approached the I70/81 junction from The covalts around 10:30AM on Sunday the rain started to pick up.. I am pretty sure it was raining six miles away at the track as well. BTW, Rick you forgot to post a Pic of my car on the trailer under the tarp in your driveway... I was ready to race!! Greg |

Which reminds me: Who should get a point for showing up for the Sunday race? At least Matt, Jack, Brian, and I were 5 mi from the track on Sun morning having breakfast, so it seems we should get a point. I know it doesn't matter much, but we should decide. Probably Rick, as the race coordinator, should make a call here? Ryan was there Sat evening when we heard the call that the race was off, so he should get a point too at least. Others? Thanks, Lou |

I had asked that question to Seymour earlier. His reply below. I agree that Rick should make the call on anyone being added to the list for Sunday. I gave all 11 Saturday racers the 1 point for Sunday in accordance with Seymour's guidance. Quote: When some of these rules were rewritten through the years some confusion was added. The intention is that everybody that showed up for the orignal race (in the pits) should get one point. This presents somewhat of a problem with two day races as nobody knows who would have really showed up the second day. This should probably be addressed after the season is over but I think the best thing to do would be to assume everybody there on Saturday would have come back Sunday.
If the race is rescheduled those returning would get one point for being there but not another point for showing up for the race that never happened. What we were really trying to make clear was that the ladder for the new race would only include those actully there and not those who showed up for the cancelled race but did not return. There was a time when all cars that showed up were put on the ladder even if they were known to be unable to race. This resulted in a lot of bye runs and confusion that we avoid by only putting those on the ladder that are actully going to race. |
