I will weld a tab on the bottom of the J and tie it in to the sectioned motor mount bracket as its about 1/8 from it now. Dont tie it to a frame support as the motor and turbo still need to move.

Junior, where are you located, and can't that flange be bolted to the OEM manifold, using some bolts with tapered heads or studs? I don't see where it should be necessaary to weld it to the cast iron manifold.

Maybe I don't understand something...

Enlighten me, please...

i am in south jersey. i am going to weld the flanges to their appropriate ends and bolting the pipe to the manifold. i didnt believe that the pipe would be sufficient to support the weight of the turbo by itself and was asking what others have done. when i look at pictures of peoples builds i cant really see anything besides the pipe holding up the turbo but knew it couldnt be so.

Junior,

Thanks for the info, and by-the-way, I completely agree with your thinking.... and Charrlie's... it NEEDS some additional support!

Does anyone have any pictures of their j-pipe turbo setup and any bracing they did? I'm trying to find out how I want to mount my Grand National turbo on my slant. Thanks for any and all info!

And from what I've gathered is that the J pipe is bolted to the factory exhaust flange on the manifold and then on the other end its welding on a turbo flange and bolting on the turbo? Yeah that doesnt sound safe at all to do without bracing it to somewhere to the engine...especially with how much I read of the cast manifolds liking to crack! Added weight to the cast manifolds sounds like a no-no without some kind of bracing but I dont know how I would brace the turbo to the engine.

Brodie,

This forum is not configured for pictures, but I have several pictures and a schematic of that setup that the designer, PISHTA on "for a bodies only" sent me. If you'll send me a blank email to Billdedman@hotmail.com I will send you those.

Just let me know.

Post subject:  PISHTA manifold/turbo pix...

Junior; I sent them to you, but this forum does not have graphic (picture) capability.

You'd have to post them on a different web page and post the URL here.

They should be in your mailbox.
