Well that is a good question. Hopefully Seymour chimes in, but I think you may be right that he is part of the West Coast even though he races with us at Clay city in the East. Was the Mississippi the dividing line?? Maybe we need to review that?
Perhaps the Mo Kan race needs to be adopted as a East Coast race in the future?

What a great point!

I think Rusty is the western champion but not the killer bee club champion.

The killer bee website lists points for some of the Mo-Kan participants but not Rusty. To bad they can't count all of us in the western division and beee fair.

Sorry...I apologize. Looks like I missed Rusty in Robs list! I think you are right. I will double check with Bruce and make the corrections.
thanks for the help

When I was more involved in these matters the points were tallied up by where you lived and not where you raced. Back then we kept track of total points by division but had only one national champion. In this new age we just ask "Do you feel like a Killer Bee" and if you do why didn't you pay your dues.

The Mississippi River IS the dividing line. I was originally counted as a Killer Bee because I helped Mike at Vegas. I was later made an East Coaster because I live east of the Mississippi. My 10 points I gained at Kearney were that important there was a national fight over me.

Congrats to Rusty and Team Green! :D

How about we propose bonus points for travelling out of division too?

Post subject:  NATIONAL Champion

I keep points for the NATIONAL Championship based on the official rules decided upon by the racers at the two respective year end banquets. There is collaboration between the East and West Coast prior to the rules being published.

I don't publish the rules. I just do my best to follow them.

I started color coding the Red and Blue because that seemed like what the majority of racers or other interested parties wanted.

It is very easy for me to get rid of the color coding and simply talk NATIONAL Championship. I always thought that was the way it should be anyway.

The Mississippi River was and is the decided upon dividing line between whether you are considered a Killer Bee or an East Coaster. It is based on where you LIVE, not where you race.

The MoKan race is held West of the Mississippi River, but was never really made a part of the Killer Bee family, so the East Coasters adopted that race this year.

Ya'll tell me what you want me to do and I'll do it. Simple job for me to get rid of the Red/Blue. It's actually easier for me when I have to type it into the forum one line at a time anyway.

I will update the Leader Board with the latest Redding race and post it shortly. Standy by...

I like the color coding for sure. I think a friendly rivalry East / West is good.

I also like the color coding as it makes it easier to see which team the racer belongs to. :D

Thank you Rob for all your work on this. I think you are doing a fantastic job.

I also like the color coding, mostly because it shows who is racing on what side of the country.

However, for Rusty H and a few others, this does not work of course. Since most of the Midwest folks race in Eastern races and rarely or never see a Killer Bee member or race, I wonder if we should change the dividing line to something more westward, like draw a line down from the western border of the Dakotas or something...

I guess we should start a thread on this, but I would love to see the colors if Rob is amenable to continuing that. Thanks, Rob!!

Sorry for stirring the pot. Just trying to get clarification. I really like the color coding. A little friendly competion never hurt anyone. I think maybe we sould consider moving the line a little more West, but that's just my opinion, for what its worth.

We could make a Midwest Division, but that would amount to about 5 cars that are about 500 miles from each other.

I made sure to bring my SSRN binders to Germany with me.

I'll go back and look at when we had the three(?) divisions for a year or two and post something (for historical {hysterical} reference).

I seem to remember one Division being called the "Tar Heels" er sumthin' like that. :?

Post subject:  National,... Divisional,... Regional...

I went through my SSRN archives and pulled out how things were divided up a few years back.

There has ALWAYS been one NATIONAL Championship, but there have been other incentives to get racers to show up. Here's some of what I found:

2004 there were 3 Divisional Points Contests
1. Southern = Farmington, Bristol and Wilkesboro races
2. Nothern = Columbus, Hamilton and Pittsburgh races
3. Central = MoKan, St. Louis and Topeka races

2005 was the "Drake Coatings Challenge" sponsored by Tom Drake. (Tom just sold his Powder Coating business recently)

Tom offered cash payouts for winners at the four most popular races of that time: Farmington, Bristol, Clay City and Wilkesboro. The cash incentives were $400, $200 and $100 in both "Box" and "No Box" classes for a total payout of $1,400.
The Box / No-Box debate used to be a bigger deal.

2006 was the year of "5 Teams"
Points were earned based on where you lived. If you moved during the season, the points didn't move with you. They stayed with the team that you were on when the points were earned. National Championship points were still counted as normal according to that year's official rules. The "Teams" were more for friendly competition and bragging rights. Kinda like we got now.

1. Hamby's Tar Heels = North Carolina (380 points)

2. Rose's Rebels - Georgia (306 points)

3. Meril's Marauders = Tennessee (264 points)

4. Cox's Army = All states East of the Mississippi River except Illinois (263 points)

5. Jeffrey's Cowboys = All states West of the Mississippi River, Illinois and the rest of the world (547 points)

2005 and 2006 is when the West Coast was really growing.

2007 it was revised to 3 Teams

With the West Coast growing so much and winning the 2006 season by such a wide margin, we decided to revise it to just 3 teams.

1. Killer Bees = All states West of the Mississippi River, Illinois and the rest of the world

2. Rose's Rebels = GA and TN

3. Hamby's Tar Heels = North Carolina and all other states East of the Mississippi River

I wasn't able to find my second binder of SSRN with 2008 and later, but at some point (likely 2008) it was divided into just East and West of the Mississippi River.

There has always been one National Champion for each year that earned the "Travelling Trophy" with his/her name added on a plaque. The Champion gets to keep the trophy until the next National Champion is announced. Then s/he adds the next Champion's name plaque to the base of the trophy and gives (or sends) the trophy on to the next National Champion.

I don't know why Illinois was (is?) part of the West Coast. It was likely because of the number of racers represented from that state at the time. Or maybe just because there was such a fight over Dennis and the West Coast won (lost? ).

That's what I was able to find so far. Anyone else want to add or clarify anything, please do.
