Getting the front end prepped for some new parts.

Got all the orig. 9" drums spindles, stamped uca's, wishy and squishy torsion bars, oe bushings, strut rods steering box etc. are coming off.

Only parts to be reused after a good cleaning are the cam bolts, lower control arms, and the center link.

We had the same issue with the LeMons 62, although I got the LCA and bar out without cutting it.
I think we have different LCAs to use, so I just left it together (for now, at least).

It's funny (sad?) how long it took to get all the old parts out. Maybe I'm getting rusty too...
Hope you were faster than I was!
Rob, when can we get a lift? :P

On the plus side, the right side T-bar joint always seems to be well-oiled in a slant car  . I've never had a stuck bar on that side.

Can't wait to see it/them going back together!

Lifts are nice.

Rob's garage is too short from the evidenince I have seen for a lift.

Time for a little drive to PA and i can help wrench on the blue lemon:-)
You can use the lift while you are here.

Rob's garage(s) are also too full for a lift
I think he uses slant blocks for insulation.

Your shop is positively sterile compared to mine. No wonder you do such nice work!

Post subject:  1/7/19 no tubes for you dudes..

I called FirmFeelIndustustries today to order the tubular front bar for the car.

Unfourtnately, they dont have the tubular bars now as their vendor is out of that material.... so I ordered a solid bar.

:(

Once it comes in then I will mock it up and place the tabs on the LCA's.

Once those are welded in the Lca's will get their glamour treatment.

Post subject:  1/12/19 Waiting on a sway bar, getting more stuff sorted.

1/12/19:

The sway bar I ordered is not here yet, and it is needed to mock up the front end for tabs to be welded to the LCA's.
So in the mean time I was looking at the car and figured that the K frame is all bare except the engine. So i built a fixture to support the engine from the top, and dropped the k frame out to degrease / clean/ paint it.

Pictures:
New pitman arm is ready as well as the centerlink.

FJM spindles with proforged lower ball joints ready for the car. Ma MoPar slider calipers for now.
Rest of the LCA AND UCA hardware is blasted and painted too.

Engine support fixture uses top of shock towers and ratchet strap to hold the slant when K Frame is removed.

Look! No K frame :D

Greg, do you plan to inspect the weld on the K frame while it is out and re weld as necessary?

I have read that some of the factory weld jobs on K frames is erratic.

I plan to give the K from the 68 Barracuda a going over.

This one looks pretty good. Some are pretty poor and I bet they were not consistent either.

Check your ratchet straps that they aren’t on any rough edges. That’s a lot of weight to have one get cut.

No rough edges. Unistrut is smooth and has rolled over edges.

That was one very confusing picture until I enlarged it! I couldnt figure out what and where stuff was going!! :D :D Maybe bi-focals are just not enough!

Yeah that picture doesn't make much sense with bad lighting and all the aprons painted black.

Anyway more progress today.

Got the K frame degreased, blasted, went over welds that had too much undercut, and begun to paint it.
I also reinforced the strut rod plates and the mounting point for the LCA. lots of welding and grinding.

LCA's are coming together too. Getting new bushings pressed in, and lower box plates installed. They are pretty light so I am okay with the weight penalty for now. I made up for it by removing the splash shields.

Hope the FFI sway bar comes next week.
