Just for a point of reference. The bare Aluminum head weighs 24 pounds. A cast iron head, bare, weighs in at 68 pounds.
So, assuming both heads have the same performance potential, that is $8500 to lose 44 pounds.
Jus' sayin'....

The Aussie speed cast valve covers have a very wide (and thick) sealing surface. My slant head's sealing lip is just about centered in that wide area of the cover. It could be you could mill one to fit the scalloped edge.

...or it'll seal without any milling?

Matt,

A 2019 Hellcat Redeye does 0-60 in 3.4 sec and costs $100,000 (fully loaded)

A Koeniggsegg Regera does 0-60 in 2.9 sec and costs $1,900,000

That's 1.8 million extra for 0.5 seconds...

Thanks for all the comments on the head, positive and otherwise. It's all good.

If you read my earlier comments on how I came to own it, you know I didn't set out to find it. I'm always looking for obscure MoPar pieces, but this particular item isn't something you seek... it finds you.

With that said - as much as I'd like to hold onto it - I can't justify it. I have what I need for my hyper-pak project already; i'm not inclined to deviate from the plan, and I'm not a hoarder. I'm pretty much like any other MoPar guy with too many irons in the fire... perpetually in need of time, cash, and space.

My asking price is just that, a starting point. I put a high value on it because of its utter singularity and its historical significance, not because of any potential performance advantage. While I did pay a tremendous amount of money to rescue it from its captor, I'm definitely open to offers - cash, trade, or otherwise. I'd really just like it to go to a good home where it is fully understood and appreciated.

What I won't do is discuss it publicly, so if you have interest in the head, please just give me a shout via PM, or contact me through the auction listing.

Thanks!

Sure.

I'm really still in the planning phase, but have collected most of what I need to build it. It's not a historically correct build.

So far I have a really nice standard-bore aluminum block with almost zero corrosion. Also a good crank, head, and nice original Hyper-Pak intake manifold.

We've built one pretty hot aluminum 225 here and experienced many of its idiosyncrasies firsthand. I've read up on modifying the blocks to handle more compression, and I have some ideas of my own. This is the plan.

Ok, good start, what are you planning for exhaust and transmission? Any plans to race it or just enjoy the experience? Thanks for sharing some of your plans with us.

I'm really not there yet. As a personal challenge I like to build unique and special engines, and try to make power where it's tough to find. So the engine is just an engine so far... no chassis, trans choice, etc. Honestly I am buried in projects right now; I don't know when it's all going to come together. Wish I could share more...
