I haven't had any gear failures yet, but I spin my 170 6000+ at least every week. So definetly interested of this new design |

Oil pumps with 14 tooth gears were shipped to a couple of members for testing. Hopefully we can get some "real world" feedback in the near future. My fingers are crossed that these new oil pump drive gears resolve the drive gear failure problem that keeps popping-up. DD |

So far, I have built 3 SL6 oil pumps with the new 14T gear. 2 of these pumps were sent-out to members w/ trucks (Reed & Rick C) .and I have the third, running in an engine, on a "static" test stand. DD |

Hey Doc, I'm actually in the middle of prepping my (used and beaten) engine to go into my 58 Plaza. I could be another tester since I don't really care if there's a failure on it. I still have the hardened gear pump you sold me years ago as a backup. Let me know! ~THOR~ |

Rick has a rebuilt factory die cast pump, 5/8 impeller size. In theory, it is this type of pump that will show the lowest hot idle pressure readings with the slower 14T rotating speeds. Question is... how low will it go? (the one I have goes down to 25 psi @ 700 RPM) DD |

I ran my 225 very easy, nowhere close to 6000 rpm, still lost two gears. Of course, after that i learned about the cam button. Haven't had an issue since (but using hardened and worked in oil pump gear, thanks DD!).Question for DD: do we have statistics on failures vs cam button modification? brian |

We never had any feedback on results, after adding a positive cam stop. https://slantsix.org/articles/oil-pump- ... esults.jpg DD |

Mine failed in my ruster engine build after 4+ years of drag racing with a ~2000 production year Schneider cam and cam button. Greg |
