Yes slant 6's in 79 got the sanden or the c-171 compressor.. nor the v2... in 79 many if not all of the v8's still got the v2 compressor.

I got my AFR sensor installed and went for a drive. Here are the readings:

Idling after cold start: 10 (I assume that means "pegged low")
About 3/4 mile down the road at the stop light: 12-13
After a few miles of driving at around 50 mph: not steady at all but within 15-16 range
After a few more miles: >17 or "pegged high" going uphill, around 16 going downhill
Engine fully warm: pegged high regardless of throttle position or load (by "pegged high" I mean the gauge display is - - - -)

Is there anything to note about these readings other than the engine is running way lean?

If it matters, the sensor is an AEM Uego Wideband with a Bosch probe.

It seems to run properly in enrich- choke on/ warm up mode.

It's lean after that.

Maybe time to go to a larger main jet and try it out.

Is the air filter clean / no obstructions?

Looks way lean to me after the engine warms up.

I have a wide band on the slant in the 83 D150, have a Holley 2280 on it.
After the engine warms idle is in the low 14’s
Mid throttle in town driving the AFR is in the 13’s to 14’s
Full throttle acceleration, AFR is in the 10’s
Steady speed highway, AFR is in the 15’s - 16’s

Last year I put a BBD on my 65 'Cuda. Using the wideband AFR meter I found the metering rod adjustment to be VERY sensitive. It also had a big effect over nearly the whole operating range. I went out one afternoon and drove noting AFR numbers at light cruise, half throttle, 3/4 and full throttle then I would stop at the side of the road, pop the top off the carb and turn the metering rod adjustment screw a half turn. Then repeat. Ultimately, the best setting I could find was with larger main jets and the metering rods close to the leanest position. I NEVER would have sorted it out properly without the wideband and real data to base adjustments on. My final numbers were similar to what DadTruck posted. Except wide open was closer to 12.

wow... don't hate me for saying this but that super 6 setup looks like it sat at the bottom of a lake for some time with all of the corrosion visible.... hope that carb is saveable.

Matv91, could I ask you for the rest of the EGR section from that manual? The donor car didn't appear to have the vacuum amplifier but maybe I just didn't know what to look for. Or maybe it was pulled long ago.

Turns out my AFR sensor failed the first time I drove with it. AEM replaced it under warranty and I got the new one today. In the meantime I also bought an in-dash vacuum gauge. With both gauges installed, I went for a little test drive. Here are the readings:

Condition | Vacuum | AFR
-------------------------
Warm idle | 13 | 12.2
Cruise | 8-12 | 16
Coast | 20 | 11.7
Acceleration | 0-3 | 16
