I have driven the car a couple of times with the spool on our back roads and the car still spins very badly.I can only imagine how it would still be on the drag strip. So I dropped off my wheels at the local tire place and ordered some Nitto Extreme Drag Radials in a 275/50/15. They are not the Mickey Thompsons I wanted, but they were about $40 a tire cheaper too. Ryan has them on his Dart and they work very well.

So, I can check "no traction" off my list!

It will be much better on the strip for traction. The V2 spins them on the street, but hooked up very well at t'n't Friday. That will likely change when I get a non-stock converter in there... The drag radials I'm sure will fix that right up.

See you soon!

Lou

Mounted my new drag radials. Found both front wheel valve stems cracked. Took them in and had them replaced. Put a fire extinguisher in the car, installed my right side mirror and hooked up my shift light. Washed the car and loaded it on the trailer and took off my mufflers. Even if I can't race I wanted to look good and be loud!

You can show up in a Buick and do that!

Your car sure looks good. If its as fast as it is good looking you may be in the 11s.....

Car ran well today. Ran a best 14.72 @ 89 today. Got faster as the day went on. Went out in first against Brian Mimken. Car was breaking up a little, but I didn't have time to do any tuning or look at what the issue might be.

With some good (cool) air and some tuning I should be able to drop into the low/mid 14's. I ran it all day just like I arrived and I know it is running rich.

I ran the car today just like it was yesterday. I just filled the cell and ran it. I did back down my shift point to 5500 and it ran fine. I ran 2 - 14.92's and a best 60' time of 2.005. I also weighed the car and it weighed 2560 without me in it. I dialed it in at 14.85 in the first round and red lighted with a -.024 but ran it on out and ran a 14.84. So I lost on both ends!  All in all I'm pleased. Now some tuning and I want to go "just a little faster"!!

Nitto tires worked superb to.

All that hard work and back breaking stuff has paid off..

Great First race with your valiant.

I am sure it will participate in many more -

No Busted coils or wrong gears ... Great.
No drive shafts tossed out in front of your lane.

Those times were About where I was able to get my dart down to.. of course my dart weighed about 900# more:-)

I'm getting ready for the street night drags in a couple weeks and needed to get a couple things done. I got my line locks installed and wired up. So that will make heating the tires a bit easier. I really don't think I need to heat them much, but I want to do one good burnout for a photo!!
I also mounted my straight through mufflers up under the car. I made them so they just slip over the collector and I welded tabs onto them so one 5/16 bolt holds each of them on. They actually are no lower than the headers themselves.
I need to adjust the valves again. I am going to tighten them up a bit and see how it runs. I think they are at .024 &.028. The cam calls for .028 &.032. I am going to try about .018 & .024 and see how it does. I need to put the stock metering rods back in the carb and also check the plugs and I should be ready to go.
Once I get to the track I will play with my timing a bit also. I hope it is a cool evening.

I was cleaning out one of my drawers and guess what I found? The original receipt from 9/13/1980 when I painted my Valiant the last time. Any guess how much I had in materials? No you aren't even close!! $53.73. That was for 1 gallon of paint, primer, thinner and tack rags!  Lets just say I had a little bit more than that in it this time around!! Not sure why I kept the receipt. Probably so I could tell you about it now!

Greg, It may be nice, but I'm not a "sit around" kind of guy. I may bring it up to race at South Mtn though.

Rick
