So, if 100 lbs is worth a tenth... How much weight would I need to remove to drop my ET by .0048? :? :lol:

I got the fuel system buttoned back up with the smaller fuel cell and two filters. One before and one after the pump. I removed the foam in the cell. It has been sitting in the garage for many years. I didn’t want to risk having it disintegrate and clog things up.

Ive got some heavy hitters gunnin’ for me at Wilkesboro next weekend. Can’t take any chances... :wink:

The Duster was as predictable as ever this past weekend at Wilkesboro, NC.

I made 12 passes and the car was as consistent as ever. The heat slows it down a bit and it's easy to pick your dial (if you don't second guess yourself and change it at the last minute... :roll: )

The best pass of the weekend was 8.9638 on a 8.97 dial in. I broke out against Norm Foster by 0.0062! :shock:

The first loss was another close breakout against another National Champion. I went 9.0409 on a 9.06 dial in against Ron Hamby. He was going to catch me at the stripe in a double breakout, but then he hit his brakes right at the finish. I went under by 0.0191 with Ron winning by a Margin of Victory (MOV) of 0.0448. Ron went 7.6959 on his 7.68 dial in.

I'm okay with losing that close against guys like Norm and Ron. No shame in my game on those! :lol:

I second guessed myself Saturday and changed my dial in at the last minute from 9.05 to 9.03 and ran a 9.0542. I had an inkling I was making a mistake by changing it. I guess I was right (or was it wrong... :? ) :roll:

The biggest thing hurting me is my inconsistent reaction times. I need more seat time to get a good starting line routine worked out. My first test pass of the weekend was a -0.0004! :shock: I thought I had it figured out, but it went down hill from there with lights ranging from 0.0459 to a horrible 0.3964 in the loss to Norm.

I don't have (make?) the time to get to the track often enough to practice my reaction times and overall starting line technique. The Slant 6 races are the only time I race. I guess if I want to be a National Champeen I'd better change that! :lol:

I weighed the Duster on a certified scale...

It only weighs 2460 without me in it and a full fuel cell.

I may reconsider my plans to set a record for 20 points... :twisted:

2460 pounds is a respectable weight for a Duster. Those '73 and '74's can get plenty heavy.

What compression would you say that engine is at? Is the head shaved?

I was also thinking of running a 4.62 gear (8" Ford) on a spool and was debating on tire size too.

It’s about 9.8:1 with a little taken off the deck and the head. Im running the 4.62 with a mini spool in a Ford 8”. :wink:

With the M/T 28.0/9.0-15 tires I’m turning right at 6300 at the finish line in the 1/8 in 2nd gear. It’s right at that point of asking myself, “Should I go ahead and shift right before the finish or run it out!?” :shock:

Thanks for your input. I've had combo's like that before but I figured I don't need to spin it any higher. After I spun it so high all I was doing was making extra noise :lol: :lol:

You're probably right. He did beat me at Wilkesboro.

At the moment Ryan is my main competition and he's ahead of me by 45 points (includes his 20 record points). Anything I can do to even that playing field is what I'm after. :wink:

I was looking at C and D class records for the Duster assuming it weighed around 2700. When I weighed it and realized I'm actually in B class it opened up a couple more interesting options. :D

The Duster weighs 2460 and I'm 190. That puts me at 2650, leaving another 49 lbs to play with before I hit C class. That should be enough for a nitrous system... Maybe even enough for my cheapie turbo set up... Both of which records are OPEN! :mrgreen:

The C class records I was looking at were the C/Unlimited (Now claimed by Lou :x ) or the C/Nitrous of Charlie's. The 1/8 mile nitrous record Charlie owns is 7.911 @84.29, which will take a little doing for the Duster that runs 8.9-9.1 now. Lou closed the door on the C/Unlimited record when he took the seats out of his Dart. :roll: :lol:

The D class records will require adding 550 lbs! :shock: Still a possibility I suppose. The D/Alcohol 1/8 mile record is still open and Ryan's D/Nitrous record is pretty soft...

Plenty of options. The easiest and most likely at the moment is the open B/Nitrous 1/8 mile record... It doesn't cost anything to plan and scheme... :lol:

I would like to set a record in each of the four categories at some point. Right now I just need those 20 points to try and keep up with Ryan. :wink:
