New Holley is installed and running. There is no hole available on the choke butterfly plate for the 1234 choke rod! The only hole there is already used by the rod connecting to the fast idle cam. Question: Do I need the choke plate connection to the fast idle cam if the electric choke is operational? If I remove the connecting rod the fast idle cam will float, doing nothing...but maybe this is ok? I called CarbsOnly, and they sent my case (with pictures) to their engineer, but they all knock off early on Friday and no one got back to me. |

Yes, you need a fast idle and a hole for the choke thermostat rod. Can you post the pictures here? |

Hi Reed, thank you. Photos on my phone are too big and I'm without a PC or WIFI. My choke plate has a slot and a hole, both of which already have rod ends in them. The hole is the only place to logically use the choke rod end clip. Options, as I see them: 1- use manual choke cable - the new carb has fittings and affixments for this option 2 - disconnect fast idle cam and use 1234 electric choke 3 - drill another hole in the choke plate, but there is not much room and I think there would be interference |

Here is a picture of a junk Holley 1945 I have. My finger is pointing at the hole where the choke thrmostat rod is supposed to go. The hole is in an eyelet that is behind the flange where the fast idle linkage and vacuum choke pulloff connect. Hey! Whaddya know! Photobucket is working again! For free! |

Thanks for the reply, Reed. Yep, my old 1945 is like yours, in that it has the folded over portion with hole for attaching choke rod. My new 1945...? Nope. Too bad I can't use the electric choke unless I find a donor carb to swap out choke plates maybe. My old carb's linkage asseblies were in rough shape. Hmmmm. |

You can unscrew the choke valve and slide the choke rod out of the carb if you want to swap choke shafts between your old and new carbs. Heck, you want the one off that carb in the picture? |

Ah. You have the choke thermostat rod in the hole for the fast idle cam lnkage and someone has straightened out the eyelet bend for the choke thermostat and affixed a manual choke clamp to it. You can try bending the eyelet back over so it looks like the one I posted. |

Well, this is reported to be a NOS carb, never been mounted or messed with which leaves me doubtful the manual choke affixment was added. It looks and feels completely factory, along with the mounting point for the manual choke cable. I am using a manual choke right now and wish to maintain capability of such for future reference (back up).Here is another view, showing the manual choke cable mounting bracket and a wider view. I see what you mean about the choke plate looking like it was bent, however.

The report of it being a NOS carb is wrong. That is, at best, a remanufactured carb. That sticker was not put on that carb by Holley. Someone has definitely messed with that carb because the eyelet for the choke thermostat has been bent 180 degrees out of alignment. You can clearly see the waves in the flange for the fast idle linkage where the 90 degree bends used to be. Someone added the manual choke cable clamp, and mangled the carb doing it. You will not be able to run a manual choke and an automatic choke at the same time, and the automatic choke will not work with that bent eyelet. |

I was hoping the sticker might be a clue for someone. The carb came from Tel Aviv, Israel so it could have been warehoused for military use or anything else (or rebuilt there). The price was right @ $150 shipped, I thought (seller accepted my offer of same). https://www.ebay.com/itm/232855442329?V ... 2855442329 I don't want to use both manual choke and electric choke at once, but I would like to maintain the capability to revert to manual choke if needed in the future. Hence, the reason I think the choke plate you offered is a great solution to get the 1234 up and running without rebending (and possibly breaking) the *mangled* plate, which hadn't occurred to me before this minute. I still don't buy it. I think you were taken for a ride on that description. That being said, I will get the original choke shaft pulled and off to you ASAP. |

Thanks to Reed for sending me his choke plate / shaft. It is in place, along with the 1234 electric choke and working as it should. I am in the process of fine tuning choke adjustment for cold starts. Once it starts easily and smoothly, I'll make an ignition key copy for wifey. |
