I used to think that of Jerry. But I have gotten to know him better. He knows his Mopar parts. Has a lot of stuff that is hard to find. He does not misrepresent his stuff. He can ask whatever he wants for parts, and the customer can decide whether it is worth that price or not. If you deal with him, you can negotiate with swaping parts and money. He had some 66 Cuda fiberglass parts that I wanted, but could never seem to get the money. Finally we made a deal for the money I had available. Got a tilt nose, two doors, deck lid, and rear bumper, for a 66 Cuda. All fiberglass, for $400. Yeah they need work, but where else can you find these parts?

Hi Jim,

I see the ebay auction. A couple of questions:

1) Can you buy the timing belt and tensioner commercially still? What are those parts?
2) Do you have any recollection of the max RPM you revved it to?

Thanks very much,

Lou Madsen

Hello Lou,

The tensioner is a Ford Pinto P/N D1K26K254A. When I Googled it I found a number of sites including this ebay ad:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Pinto-2- ... 911wt_1127

The tensioner shown in the ad appears to be the same as mine.

The timing belt is a Uniroyal fibreglass belt. It is 1 inch wide and has 1/2 inch pitch. It is 70 inches long. I am sure that a replacement can be found from Gates Corp.

As far as max RPM, I specifically remember 7000 RPM one time.

Best Regards,
Jim

i feel like it's safe to say i'm not the only one who hopes these parts WILL be reproduced so that others can purchase this technology. i didn't bid because there was not a timely response to the question of shipping, although i now see that this was not an issue.

oh, well...

LET THE REPOPS BEGIN!!!!

i should mention, i am only referring to the intake. while the exhaust is extremely cool, i would prefer the streetability of the dutra system. however, i have yet to find an equivalent intake.

Clifford has been selling reproduction Hyperpak intakes for years, based on Mr. Dutra's castings. Quality control and delivery time has gone downhill lately, but I believe they will still take your money and tell you they will make you an intake.

Post subject:  OHC Conversion for the Slant-Six

While I saw the Hyper-Pak Manifolds on E-bay, I totally missed this thread/ Wow! This is so cool!

The Mopar Trans-4s 2.2 and 2.5 Liter engines are similar in bore diameter and spacing, and the oil pump and distributor (SOHC models only) were driven by a "dummy shaft" that (strangely enough) is in the same position as the cam on a slant-six. The stroke on the 2.2 and 170 cranks were the same while the 2.5 and 225 were slightly different. Additionally, the cam bearing supports on the modified slant-six, also look very familiar. It's easy to see where the Trans-4 engine lineage is from.

Has anyone further investigated doing this kind of conversion? Maybe it would be good to try to adapt those (millions of junk yard) parts to convert the slant-six. The 88-95(?) engines used roller followers, but the valves were Hydraulic, with a lifter as the fulcrum point for the cam follower arm. At one time, their was a "solid lifter with an adjustable fulcrum point" in the MOPAR Performance Catalog if you wanted to go that far in your cam selection (most cams were mild, as they worked better with the fuel injection and turbo).
