I would not recommend you using your aluminium intercooler piping for the turbo exhaust, it will probably melt from the heat of the turbo
thanks for the heads up. i looked up the melting point of the aluminum i have and its slightly lower then my expected exhaust temps. ill figure something out.

got the fans in and wired. thermostat adjusted. took it for its first boosted ride. only went to 5psi because i didint go wot and the bov wasnt adjusted. so it was bleeding off boost. realized it after the fact.

turn it up a little.

done a couple shakedown runs with it. the afr needs a little help (little lean 13.2 wot) gonna try some vent tube extensions. from what i read its gonna put me right where i need to be. cruising is good in my book at 14.5-15.2. taking it to the track next sunday. ill try and get some video.

so far im more then happy with it. the difference is night and day. it gets it pretty good. tranny isnt giving me any hiccups yet.

i cant wait to get to the track either. was just thinking about going to a tnt on tuesday but turns out my track is getting resurfaced from tomorrow until friday so i guess i be doing my tuning on the street. (there are some nice straight level back roads around me) didnt want to but i gotta get it pretty close before thrashing it on the track come sunday. vent tubes and if i need it im planning on jetting up on the secondaries. regular driving is spot on im going to leave the primaries alone.

i dont really wanna speculate what its gonna run but its strong. best i could get out of it na with the few things i did was a 17.7. i know im gonna blow that away. i would honesty be surprised if its not in the mid 15's right now, before working out some bugs and only running what i believe is 8lbs. pulls like a freight train straight up to 5k on 6 month old 87 octane with no drama what so ever. (save your energy i know its a bad idea but i gotta get it out of there somehow)(ill ad that i havent done a thing to my distributor yet= totally stock timing) im kinda surprised it runs as well as it does is spite of that. no pining, popping, surging, backfiring or anything just runs awesome. i am going to pull my distributor tomorrow and limit the throw on the mechanical advance for piece of mind when i turn up the boost.

my waste gate is set to 8lbs but the gauge i have hooked up is holding steady at 5. i tapped one of the vacuum ports on the bottom of the carb for the boost source. i understand there is going to be a pressure drop below the venturis but is it really 3lbs? i am running over sized piping and a huge intercooler but that shouldnt account for more then 1psi at best. .2 psi drop advertised on the intercooler at the boost im running. first gear goes by to fast to look at the gauge but in second it shoots to 5 and stays, in 3rd it shoots to 5 holds for a short while and starts climbing. im assuming its creep and not trying to get the the full 8lbs. im looking at that as a good thing. i dont plan on staying at 8lbs very long so as i up the level the creep should go away. im tempted to run a second boost gauge to the carb hat to see what the actual boost is not just what the motor is seeing.

What size piping are you running ?? What kind of intercooler are you running bar and plate, or radiator style tube and fin ?? Also vent tube extensions are very helpful in keeping your jetting down, just remember if your not running a rear PV you will still have to jet up to compensate, I can't remember reading but are you running a boost referenced PV ?? If so what PV did you start out with ?? In Hg rating of course :) adding a second boost gage is a waste of money, the only boost you should be worrying about is the boost the motor is seeing, also what is your BOV set at for psi ??

3" piping, bar and plate. i got the pipe today to do the vent tube extensions. i waiting for the low profile carb hat to come in so i dont have to do it twice. no brpv. no rear pv. it was my understanding to put it all together and see how it works so that is where im at currently. i have a 6.5 normal pv in there now. i really have no idea on the bov. i have it set to hold as much as it can right now. its a cheap ebay piece so... i dont have a regulator to test the psi. im not really worried about the boost at the hat more curious then anything.

i saw in one of your posts a while back that you put a brpv in your setup. which one did you wind up going with? ive found quite a few variations.

fwiw i have intentions of going all out on this thing eventually so i didnt want to have to change everything when i step up so everything is oversized for my current setup.

This build has me feeling real inspired :D

Boost seems way over my head when it comes to custom applications, and I love what you've done so far this is very professional looking and it sounds awsome :wink:

Can I make a suggestion?
VFN sells fiberglass hoods, bumpers, and trunks for your car, if you're looking to shed some weight to save some time I think you should look them up, they even make cowl/scooped hoods, or stock pin on or bolt ons if your looking to stay with the stock look!

I love it man keep updating and keep up the awsome work!

MoreDoorVal, i used to think it was alot more then it is. once you get your head around how they actually work and figure out what you need its pretty easy from there. ive read a few books and done days of reading on here and http://www.theturboforums.com/ to sort out any questions that i had. i did more homework on this project alone then i ever did in highschool.

the fiberglass sounds good but if i were to go that route i would probably make my own panels out of carbon fiber. i like the look of it. there are a bunch of videos on youtube on how to do it. looks pretty easy. not to mention i could pop out a couple extra and recoup my investment. i havent come across anything for my car in carbon fiber other then a shift knob. i think that might be my next big project once i have my car dialed in.

thanks for the kind words. ill continue to update. ive got a list of stuff to do today once the rain stops. gotta pull my distributor and limit the advance, finish up my exhaust, throw some vent tube extensions on the carb to try and bring down my afr a little, ad some jet if that doenst completely take care of it, and chase down an oil leak that i suspect is my valve cover.

exhaust is done. came on here to look up how to get the distributor apart without breaking it and figured i would throw up some pics.

here is my exhaust in its entirety. 18" of 3" flex pipe, 3" 45* 6"long and a 2.5"-3"adapter 3" long. grand total of 27" of exhaust.
<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/IMG_20140513_140646_360_zps2e137661.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140513_140646_360_zps2e137661.jpg"/>

tight fit. might have to get some header wrap for the down pipe.
<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/IMG_20140513_143412_004_zps4d4d4886.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140513_143412_004_zps4d4d4886.jpg"/>

barely clears the steering linkage.

distributor is done. pretty easy. easier then i though it was going to be.

welded some of the slot.
<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/IMG_20140513_154054_137_zps82e36651.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140513_154054_137_zps82e36651.jpg"/>

ground down the extra weld and got in there with a dremel.
<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/IMG_20140513_160500_956_zpsd3839ee7.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140513_160500_956_zpsd3839ee7.jpg"/>

the measurement i came up with was .300-.310 so i went with the .310, flexed the calipers a little bit to get it there its closer to .305.
<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/IMG_20140513_160732_695_zpsb7729bd8.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140513_160732_695_zpsb7729bd8.jpg"/>

final fit of the governor.
<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/IMG_20140513_161108_312_zpsaa262db2.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140513_161108_312_zpsaa262db2.jpg"/>

gotta get it back in and take it for a test run. hopefully i didnt loose any power limiting the timing. i probably did but i should be able to make it back up safely with a little more boost.

put the vent tube extensions in. didnt really work out how i had imagined. running 10-11.5 at cruise and went down to a 12.5 wot. i had a backfire when i put the distributor back in im hoping i popped the power valve and that is why my cruise afr is so rich. still idles around 14.5-15 though. im gonna swap out the power valve tomorrow and see what happens. if that doesnt change anything im going to leave the secondary vent tube in and take the primary out.

<img src="http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/weesers1/IMG_20140513_173908_952_zpsbeb2c567.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_20140513_173908_952_zpsbeb2c567.jpg"/>

seems to like the retarded timing and the little bit of exhaust, pulled a little harder. quieted it up nicely too.

You could have a boost leak somewhere, make sure everything is sealed tight. That would explain the 3 psi loss. I would just lock the timing in at 18*. Brpv shouldn't be necessary in a low boost application. Mess around with the secondaries and see if that will clean up your afr. 8 psi will feel really good man. If you think it's 15's running like $#!+ you might be able to get into the low 14's with a good tune. Are you planning to stay at 8 psi?

brpv mk1. mocked it up on a spare metering block i had. this seems to be the most popular setup by far. 6.5 pv took 1 1/4 coil out. its my understanding that it needs to be pretty easy to open so thats how i had it set. blowing in the line for my boost gauge i could get 3psi without hurting my cheeks so i kept that in mind while setting this up. i have a 2.5 pv floating around i would like to find to get the spring out of. but ill see how this works tomorrw. might have to open up my pvcr's. ill have to figure that out when the time comes.
