Wow, that looks pretty damn sweet! I wish I had the know-how and equipment to make my own EFI turbo setup...but there's nothing wrong with a carb'd turbo slant. I'm keeping an eye on this project! Keep up the good work brotha! |

With the fabrication finally done on the intake manifold and plenum It's ready to seal up. A quick tally comes up with about 8 feet of weld bead in this thing. You can bet there are at least a couple of places where some porosity in a weld would create a vacuum leak. I could figure out a way to pressure test it and grind/re-weld whatever turns up. Instead I decided to coat the inside with some epoxy I got from Caswell. I gave it 2 coats. The second coat went on nice and thick.

How well does that epoxy stick to the shiny aluminum? The thought of it flaking loose makes me cringe. I would have high temp powder coated the outside |

So it should stick all right. I've even used this particular stuff on the inside of polyethylene motorcycle tanks. Nothing sticks to those - except this Caswell epoxy.

I made a bad mistake and learned something new. Ha ha... those 2 things go together don't they? So I welded all those pipe thread bungs into the plenum for various things that will have to plug into them. I had some nice brass plugs that I put in the holes then I submerged the whole thing in a bucket of etching solution. Well the solution wicked into the threads and jammed all the brass plugs in all the threaded holes. I had to drill all 6 of those suckers out. No, it was not the epoxy. I could see the evidence of corrosion on the remains of the threads. It's all good now. The plugs are drilled out and the holes have been re-tapped. But I didn't need to cause myself an extra couple hours of work. |

The place I had to cut the exhaust manifold to retain the divider didn't put the turbo quite where it needed to be so I fabricated and extension to move the turbo out and up. The extension is also divided to keep the exhaust pulses separated going into the divided turbine housing.  Quote: ... Kawasaki green? Hey Thomas, Rustoleum calls it Grabber Green but it is pretty close Kawasaki.

Well, it's not going in that Vette but possibly in a slightly newer C4 if I can find the right deal. The Vette in the background is motivated by a GMC 6.5 diesel with a big turbo and a cranked up injection pump.

Today I worked on additional mock-up stuff. Re-shaped the dipstick tube. Since I will temporarily run i a draw through on the one barrel carb I fabbed up an intake to mount the carb to the turbo.  EDIT: I've decided I'm not going to do this. Not even for test running |
