Most time it is not necessary to modify the rods, if you don't want to. Just install the piston/pins as press fit and omit the pin locks in the piston.
Or as stated hone the small end of the rod for proper pin clearance and run steel on steel.
Or bore the small end and install a bronze bushing. Either way of floating requires a method of oiling the pin in the rod.
Personally, I don't like the idea of "bushing" the slant rod. The boring takes too much steel out of the rod and in my opinion weakens it.

Thanks for that, Charlie. That would seem the simplest thing if you don't want to mess with locks and a floating pin and oiling changes.

3.485" bore and floating pints, yes Greg.

Gotcha, Rick.

Actually, it is not hard to float the pins in the rods. Just need to drill a hole (I forget what size) down through the top of the rod into the pin area, and put in a fairly large counter sink to act like a oil cup. The small end is honed for the proper pin clearance. Everything else is the same as a normal recondition. I have done this on many engines, including a slant. If I remember correctly the Mopar engine performance book shows how this is done.

Lou, is this small dome in the quench pad area of the chamber? And at those specs, would still be below deck on an unmilled/skimmed block. My stock .060" over slugs are .130" down in the hole right now, and quick math says w/o a dome I'd be at 10.75:1, a bit steep for the street. Any chance We will get a blueprint/image before committing? Oh, and what will the deposit required be? Thx, Jim K6.

Okay, will the floating pin be the stock .901" size so we can choose to float it on the rod or not?

I will try to answer your questions. I am not sure I can handle the volume/precision at this point due to work constraints, and I'm not sure my contact can answer these or get answers back and forth with Icon (sometimes delay in answering questions) before we want to order.

I will want $200 deposit on order. I assume 0.901" pin and will try to find out. Should I count you in for sure, Greg?

0.130" in the hole with stock pistons means you have a way milled block, as 0.180" is pretty standard. The pad is about 0.070" tall. You can easily find another block or mill the pistons a little to get the CR you want. There will be plenty of meat in the piston deck. Killer6, I will assume you are out at this point if I cannot answer your questions.

Thanks,
Lou

Yeah Lou, I had the block & head both milled .050" back in '89, haven't changed a thing on it. I hate to pass on this, but don't see these fitting My plans for it, or the 170 build in the works. Much appreciation for Your efforts in doing this tho', peace!!

Slanted sages,

1) Can someone please make a post on FABO (and/or facebook) to check this thread about the pistons? I see a few people who said they want a set, but who have not responded to my PMs or my request on this thread to confirm. I think these are FABO or facebook guys - rich_mc, 66dirtydart, and 63 Plymouth (on this site). Also, Valleyant has not responded, so if anyone knows how to contact him please direct him here.

2) I am starting to collect deposits by Paypal. $200 at this point to get in on a piston set. I will send you a paypal address/request by PM if you do not already have my paypal acct/address.

Thanks a bunch!

Lou

Did I miss the weight of the piston?
With or without pin.
