Caught a break. Last weekend when I had the car running I had a leak out the front. It was slippery so I thought it was oil. Fast forward to today, checked it again and it is water. It felt slippery because there was a little anti freeze left in it I guess.

Tested out my knees for driving long distances today too. Farthest I have driven since surgery was to the shop. Today we went to Indy to pick up a motorcycle for Patrick. Got back and seem to be doing ok.

Cousin is pretty sure he has the time off to go to Mokan, so we should be set. Got some piddly things to do to the car next weekend and hopefully a test on Sunday at 41.

Little by little...

Weather is supposed to be decent this weekend. I am going to try to get the car buttoned up Saturday and to 41.

Finally made it to 41 today. Met my buddy Keith there, my friends Randy and Amy Fredericks, and cousin Chad and his ladyfriend Mari.

Drove the car around to warm it up and it was getting up to 200°. Had to go to staging because we only got 1 time run today.

Motor was at 200° when I staged, but I sent it. We were running 1/8 mile so I could see the scoreboard. 8.02@85. Fastest 1/8 mile pass the car has ever made, and proof of my belief it's running pig rich.

Back in the pits I cooled the car and checked the water. It was low so we added some. Put the cap back on and the pump instantly started leaking again. Had my new one with so we stuck it on. Filled it back up and no leaks.

Go up for the first round and it's back to running 140 driving to staging. Got it up to 160° when i staged as normal. Let go of the button and it felt slow. Looked downtrack and my win light was on so I legged it out. 8.19@84. Yep, pig rich.

Second round I dialed 8.17 and tried it. Car felt a little better, lost the other guy at the big end and broke out a ton. 8.10@84. Bad news? Had him welded .007 to his .223.

But! The car went back on the trailer under it's own power, got to spend the day with friends, and now have a baseline to start tuning. I think there could be a 7.75-.80 in there yet.

Sounds great, Dennis. Hmm, if it runs faster when it's hot, that would tell me it's lean, not rich. What am I missing here?

Data! you need data, otherwise, you are making (educated) guesses. I guess?

Sometimes even with data, it can be interpreted wrong.

I am sure you will get it sorted.

When tuning without an O2, this is pretty iron clad that the car will run faster when hot when it is lean, and faster when cool when it is rich. 0.2 sec difference is quite a bit. The only thing that could goof this trend up is if the outside air temp were getting warmer while you made the engine temp cooler. I'd probably jet down 3 sizes and try again.

It would be nice to have an O2 sensor, assuming you can put it somewhere that is not too close to the exit of your exhaust/header.
The AEM sensors/gauges are excellent and not very expensive (PN 30-0300, $200, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/avm- ... ztEALw_wcB).

7.80s here we come!

I've got a fancy O2 setup for my Duster that I've never used. I can't remember if there's a bung on my header or not. It's got small bungs by the head for EGT probes, that's how Mike tuned it.

I'm just happy mothing major fell out of the motor.

The EGT sensors give you a bit more cylinder-to-cylinder distribution data and insight. I am not sure if they are more expensive or not. Especially if you have 6 channels to monitor.

Just Think! When you get your Webers on there you would be running 7.60's!!

Great times Dennis! Guess I'm going to have to look for a little more ET! My best 8.01. We'd probably have fun running side by side! :D :D
