I am currently not using a blow off valve and relying solely on the stock 8# actuator on the waste gate.

The car is my daily driver, so I get to see how it acts in all types of driving.

This set up is really drivable. If I mechanically disengage overdrive it shifts and drives just like any 3 on the tree, but when OD is mechanically enabled, but electrically disabled, the tranny free wheels on deceleration. No engine braking makes for EXTREMELY smooth shifting. Electrically enabling OD allows freewheeling up to 25 or so MPH, then the governor will allow driveline speed to "bump" tailpiece into OD upon deceleration.

10hg vacuum at idle allows me to cruise in the idle circuit quite a bit, I will be working to lean it out a fair amount in the hope of seeing more economy.

I have never owned a particularly fast car before, so I have no real reference. My last newer car was a 2002 Sable 32 valve 6cyl w/ traction control. This old Dart is substantially quicker.

I have had several V8s over the years, but they were dogs compared to the slant too.

I have been so excited about the performance of this package that it took awhile to realize that I achieved every goal of the build to begin with.

Namely:

Heavy duty - all of my choices were based upon fairly simple criteria.
1) Can I do it myself?
2) Can I repeat it with junkyard or 'off the shelf" parts?
3) Does it play to the strength of the stock slant?
4) How inexpensively can it be done well?
5) Can this package last 100,000 plus miles?

Simplicity
1) Will a stock part do the job?
2) Is a heavier part available?
3) Can I avoid electronics?
4) Do I, or can I, understand it?

Economy
1) How much to build it?
2) How much to repair, maintain it?
3) Can I drive it with portions of it disabled if need be?
4) Fuel economy?

Cool factor
1) Can I build it?
2) Will it be the coolest thing around?
3) Can it be my daily driver?

The answer to all the above is YES. AND as far as I am concerned, its a rocket with a great personality.

I was scared at the possibility of fighting with carb and timing for months only to find that I made a wrong choice to begin with. As it worked out, I was able to drive it immediately, tune it within reason within a weekend or so and I am very confident that there is enough tweeking left to wring some real power out of it even at such a low boost level.

I really like seeing another of the 1st yrs of the big body /6. I'm still working on my '61 Plymouth Belvedere /6. I was driving my '60 Savoy /6 today going to Wal Mart where the SPANDEX girls hang out here in Arkansaw.

Do you have pics of the savoy? I love this old Dart, a two door Savoy would be a great second choice.

I installed new leaf springs from General Spring. Bushings,u-bolts and springs for around 230.00 + freight. Shocks are Gabriels from Auto Zone 60.00 for all four.

I've used General before, Joe is knowledgable and friendly, shipping is quick.

I also installed new upper control arm bushings and tried a do it yourself alignment. I'm happy.
