Improvements across the board... Intake & exhaust runners, combustion chambers, valve angle, oiling, flow benched proven design... matched intake, pro flo 2 mpfi (Bells & Whistles)... And yes BIG weight savings improves acceleration, deceleration when braking, G's in the turns given the already low center of gravity= Bad Ass Track Days!!
How much weight you gonna save when a good ported head only weighs 75#?

You do realize that the alloy head will have to have extra material cast in to prevent warping/cracking, right? When you're all done you will have spent thousands to save 30#. Maybe.

And you're still stuck with a long stroke tiny bore block. No head in the world will overcome that.

You can weld/port an iron head right now that will exceed the needs of 99% of the Slanters in the world. An alloy head is not a magic bullet that will suddenly make a Slant produce otherworldly hp. As far as injection, there are already dozens of Slants running it.

What is a recommended shop that can weld a "quench" head ?

That, and just 'cause they make a head for something doesn't mean they make an EFI intake for it... even if they DO end up making one 20yrs from now, who says it'll have 'all the bells and whistles'?

Ahem re: fuel injection intake manifolds:

That is an article I would love to see updated and finished.

Any shop that will weld cast can do it. Question is, is there enough gain to warrant spending the money? Would you spend $2/3000 for an aluminum head just so you can say you have quench?

IF Edelbrock were to take on this project they would have to sell 75 heads and make $1000 above what each casting cost to break even. Pretty sure they are not going to stick their necks out for that gamble.

Maybe CNC Dude will pop in and tell us how his aluminum head project is coming along. :D

I think 3d printing, either of a head directly or of a mold, stands the best chance for developing a cost-effective modern slant six head. Otherwise, just get a stock head and do the standard machine work- big valves and porting.

What we need is an inventive guy that is not afraid to think outside of the box to head up the aluminum head project. Someone with pure imagination that is not afraid of the nay-sayers like Zilla. Someone like this guy.....

Honestly, we need to continue to encourage the preservation of the cars and trucks. The urban legend of the slant six as a lovable grunge beater isn't helping. There are an estimated half million Ford model A's, which tends to encourage decent aftermarket support. I may drop by to the Pig Stand tonight to see people's cars. I bet there are no slant sixes there.

Any older rear drive car deserves attention as they are vanishing and the muscle cars alone can't preserve the future of the hobby.

Well Wayne, just step right up with a couple bushel baskets full of those hundreds you got stashed away and get this party started.

Willy Wonka was awesome, but supply and demand don't lie. Slant six cars have never been the high dollar restoration items the muscle cars are, and most people still have the six cylinder prejudice. I would love to see new parts developed for the slant, but I just don't think the market is there for commercial production of them.

Post subject:  alum head merits

I'm pretty sure we could chat long and hard about the shortcomings of the Chevy 409, the AMC stuff, etc, and how limited and select market that is for alum heads, and a plethora of other negative reasons ( some even true) for producing alum heads for these ancient motors, but the fact remains, they were made, and if we don't make a persistent effort for a slant six, it will never be made. Reminds me of Jack Nicholson quote in the movie "One flew over the Cookoos nest", "at least I tried".
