Looks like Fast Four rules are pretty much open. Does that apply to fuel?

There is nothing I've seen barring fuel from being used in any of the competition classes other than event insurance. If the track says it's OK....

For fast four, I didn't see any indication that nitro was out.

I don't believe there is a fuel restriction on the unlimited records.
Maybe we can get clarification on that. As it doesn't specify in the current rules, I don't know why it would be an issue.

The "Fast Four" race at Clay City this year is open to all comers! :shock:

(I'll confirm with the track that it's okay...)

If official SSRN record setting is your goal at Clay City, I suggest you abide by the long standing rule that nitro methane is not allowed...

But if you just wanna go fast... :wink: :lol:

I would say Unlimited really means unlimited, so fuel is open. For all other classes, nope.

I would like to see Fast 4 be door cars, but so far I've never even seen a rail Slant 6 at a track (over 50 Slant races attended), so that could be interesting too.

I don't see a problem with Fast 4 running any fuel, but the cars would have to choose which class they want for records and use that fuel accordingly. If no record attempts, then all is open...

Nitro is not legal at any NHRA sanctioned track in anything but Fuel classes. :shock:

We don't run that many NHRA sanctioned tracks though. :wink:

Your biggest problem with nitro is the track. No track allows it due to insurance reasons and governing body.
Here is the NHRA rule for 7.50 and slower cars. I am pretty certain IHRA is the same. Call the track and ask before someone commits to running it.

It use to be that if you got caught at a sanctioned track running it there was a lifetime ban from all sanctioned tracks. Propylene Oxide falls under this rule as well.

When the rules for records and fast 4 races were written nitro was not believed to be an issue. Post 9/11 you can only buy it if you have a note from your mother and as far as I know practically all drag strips will throw you out if you are caught using it. I know they do use it in certain nostalgia races and I don't know what they have to do to get it allowed.

Prior to some competitors actually using it, I never thought it would be an issue. I just looked at the original record setting rules and I don't see where nitro is mentioned regarding the Supercharged class which became the Unlimited class, not to allow nitro but to allow the combination of nitrous and supercharging. As far as I am concerned nitro should not be allowed in any slant 6 competition but that is only my opinion. Whatever currently serves as the rules for record setting and fast four competition should be revised to address this subject. Discuss the isssue, then make a decision and document it. The fast four rules I am looking at are on page 19 of SSRN #24.

Good to know about the tracks being crazy careful about nitro. I had forgotten that. As a chemist, I am comfortable (for better or worse) handling about any dangerous chemical you can think of. Yes, I have had HF (hydrofluoric acid) on my hands... :roll:

I agree.

If the tracks are so much against using it, with just one exception, it seems to me that we as Slant 6 racers don't really need to use it. Again just my opinion. It also seems that it would a nightmare to police. And I for one will not police it at Mason Dixon. I have enough trouble getting a ladder drawn up! Would all of these cars be running in the regular program and then juice up with nitro methane for the fast 4? If so someone has to verify what is going on.

This has nothing to do with the fuel question...I did read (and can't find where) in the last few weeks, someone is in the process of building a rear engine /6 dragster. Anybody else ?

Policing for nitro is not that hard if you get a whiff of the car exhaust, especially if they have it a little fat.

The only way to catch nitro is a fuel check.
We were at KCIR running 30% and I went to make a time run, started the car with Mike J. three feet from the header and he didn't say a thing. If anybody was going to complain it would be him. Cherry fuel fragrance does a wonderful job. The header collector had to be turned to exit out the side of the car because up the return road you would cry like a baby with a conventional collector exit.
As of now we are done with nitro and feel lucky we didn't tear up any parts with it.
