Yes, Frank has helped us out on several occasions, (we're /6 newbies) mainly with some hard parts from Oz. He's a great guy! I can't wait to see his dragster run!

Our car is in Little Rock, but I actually live in Conway, about 30 miles to the North-West. Makes working on it real handy for me... NOT!

This project is mainly a race car that will see minimal street driving.

Just 2 old duffers having a last gasp... LOL!

It's a little early for us to make any committments, as this thing has never fired under boost, but that is our hope, to attend some /6 functions, later on.

In the meantime, we'll be at our "local" strip (Centerville, Arkansas, a 1,000-foot facility) trying to get this strange new mill sorted out.

Thanks, Lou; if it runs well at all, we'll have Tom Wolfe to thank. He took us by the hand and led us down the primrose path, with tons of good information and parts recommendations along the way. It's pretty much a clone of the engine in his Dart (11-flat, 121 mph into a 15 mph headwind.) Our car should be 300-400-pounds lighter than his.

Charlie Schmid, Frank Brent, and Ryan Peterson also aided in the constuction and I'd like to thank them for their invaluable help.

As of today, the ('64) Valiant has new paint, and is ready to come home from the body shop. We still have to re-install the windhield (new) and back glass, install the fuel system (pump and lines, with a boost-oriented regulator and a return line) and some wiring, and she should be good to go! Oh yeah; adjust the CalTracs...

A normal race team could probably do all that in about 10 days, but we're so O-L-D (I'm 73, and Freddie's 74) it will probably take us a month...

I'll keep you guys updated.

Wyanes motor and mine have nothing in common,different crank,rods,pistons,cam,springs,rockers,builder.The only thing in common is Mike who did both our heads,and I tweaked mine a little.Mark

Wayne has the best of everything in his motor. Your motors are not that different in flow numbers, cam specs, and compression. I also know what Wayne's made on Bogner's dyno.

I know Wayne had his reasons for doing a 170 and that is cool. It just proves the point that a 170 will never be as fast as a 225, even with more money thrown at it.

I just used a RWHP calculator equation, which gives me 305 RWHP for 11.50 sec ET @ 2380# ractwt. Maybe a little less with MPH calculator, but not much different. Tell me if those numbers are wrong. That should be around 360-370 crank HP with 20% drivetrain loss (from Tilley's dynos).

This same calculator makes sense with my (and other) cars numbers.

This is awesome, I like having a front row seat in engine theory. These kinda of discussions are where crazy ideas come from which make crazy fast engine combos.

One thing you have to remember about calculators, all they do is figure how much power it takes to move that weight in that time. They do not allow for gearing, etc.

They are hella fun to play with though.

Yes, the calculators are "average HP" over the whole 1/4 mile, which can be pretty close to peak HP for a drag car with a 4000+ stall converter... Only good for estimates.

Just for comparison, here's some flow numbers of the different small Ford 6 heads.

Tilley (and maybe Gary Bruner) has matched the best head on there with a stock /6 casting. Quite a few people have done around 200/165 CFM. Of course, head flow numbers are hard to compare as absolute numbers.
