Just talked to Mater. He is flyin' high! Guess Chase shut down a new Challenger in sportsman class! Way to go Kentucky boys! Lou is spending the night in his tent - he may have his own survival show soon based on the forecast. Wish I was there. Good luck on Sun. and stay safe.

Congrats Lou..

No Surprise about merril in the Final - He was last year against me at clay city.. We had identical .011 Breaouts on the final round - He had a better light by .01x.. he won..

Congrats to all.

I think lou will be fine in the tent...

I tented it last year and it went down to 30* at night.. lotsa blankets..

I learned not to put car cover on car when theres' frost.. it rips you cover up.

I will be tuned in for tomorrow's race..

I wish Clay City had a webcam
:D :D :D :D :D

Car count for today is 8!
There is overcast, and it is cool at the track.
Sounds like they should have some good air!

If and when I get updates, I'll post them here. :D

Not surprising to see Merril in the final again

It looks like that first round was Merrils's payback for Saturday's Final.

Now THAT was FUN!!! :D

Let's see if I can remember some of the details from this weekend...

Chase, Michael and I towed GodsRods Duster II 125 miles to Clay City with Stella. She got a little hot a couple times on the way up. A quick pull over and cool down got her back on the road without drama.

The weather that caused so much concern blew over and we actually had some really nice racing weather all weekend. :D

Here's the ladder for Saturday (7 cars):

Round 1:
Lou Madsen (64 Valiant "V2" 16.XX) - Win
Courtney Bruner (64 Valiant 19.XX)

Jack Everhardt (75 Duster 17.XX)
Lukus Bruner (?? Dakota "SlantKota II" 18.XX??) - Win

Chase Simmons (74 Duster "Stella" 19.40)
Rob Simmons (73 Duster "GodsRods Duster II" 13.96) - Win

Meril Bruner (80 D50 "FunnyTruck" 14.20) - Bye

Round 2:
Lou Madsen - Win
Lukus Bruner

Meril Bruner (14.27 on a 14.22 dial) - Win
Rob Simmons (14.00 on a 13.90 dial - On the brakes)
**Identical .042 lights :D

Final:
Lou Madsen - Win
Meril Bruner

Meril was off his dial by a full second... :? Apparently that dark top end tricked him into letting off early... :(

This was my first time actually racing at Clay City. It is DARK down there and especially on the narrow, windy return road! Made me want to put headlights on the Duster!

Sunday was overcast and colder, but we were treated to an eighth racer showing up! :D Nick Stavale (Valleyant) drove down from Cincinatti, Ohio in his nice '72 Valiant 4 door, Black with a white top, 60K original miles.

He showed up after time trials and just in time to be added to the ladder. He had made some passes back home, but not getting any time trials at Clay City would be his undoing. :(

Thanks Ceej for posting the Sunday update for me! :D I was a bit, shall we say,... Distracted all day.

A couple details that I can remember... :

Nick couldn't run his 17.50 and went 17.769. I did better at judging the stripe this time and braked to a 14.096 on my 13.90 dial for the win.

Chase and I ran Super ET both days for as much seat time as we could get. Unfortunately, we got paired together for the first round Sunday and one of us had to go...

Stella had picked up from a 19.40 to a 19.16, so that's what he dialed... I was still comfy with my 13.90 and gave him plenty of room with a .408 light... He had cut a nice .088 light... And broke out with a 19.08 letting off... I ran it through with a 13.95 for the (unintentional) win...

Round 2 of Slant 6 Gary dialed 18.84 to my 13.90. He drilled me at the tree with a .066 to my .223  Luckily for me he broke out by a bunch with an 18.554 (on the brakes)!

I was pushing hard to catch him and saw him on the brakes ahead of me... My run felt good and I wasn't catching him, so I pushed on through with a 13.911 @ 92.572 for the win.

Next up for me was round 2 of Super ET. I got paired up with a new Ram diesel 4X4 that had "Car broke, racing tow vehicle" in the camper window... His dial was a 14.81 to my familiar 13.90.

There was a breakdown just before us, so we sat there on the line for a few minutes. Mike came over and we were chit chatting... I mentioned to Mike that the big Ram was pretty quick at 14.81... Then I completely forgot that comment and my mind said, "It's a big 4X4, you'll be waiting a few seconds..." So, the light on my side caught me by surprise and I cut a .609 light!

So, I pushed it hard to catch him and broke out with a 13.878.

But hey! It was a new best for GodsRods Duster II. :D

Now Meril and I are in the Slant 6 final... :D

I knew I couldn't sleep at the light with the Old Fox next to me... That lead me to redlight with a -.080. :(

But wait! What's that light up at the finish line? I have a win light and there's a big red bulb on his side!

Gun it! New best ET: 13.749 @ 93.431!

And the Win!! :D

Other highlights that come to mind:

I introduced Chase and Mike to the Clay City tradition of showing up at the Bruner's RV with a sorrowful look on our faces and being invited in fer some good vittles. Soup of the Day: Cabbage with Sweet Cornbread and Punkin' Pie fer dessert. :D

When I went through the GodsRods Duster I (now II) engine and got them bent up push rods outta the oil pan I must not have used locktite on the oil pan bolts... They all vibrated loose and I even lost one. Luckily, I noticed a leak in staging just before my 5th pass Friday night and went back to the pits fer a look see.

Gary Bruner let me use some Locktite and I went through them all fer a nice, tight seal. :D

Then, today I musta been kinda tired... I was in the staging lanes for a Super ET time trial and went to start it with no luck. We pushed it back to the pits fer another look see thinkin' the starter switch had gone out... I put it in Park and tried again... Vroom! :D I musta had it in gear instead of Park or Neutral.

So, back I went for my last Super ET time trial of the day... And ran a disappointing 20.721!

('Cuz I runned it outta gas and was pushin' it through the traps... ) Yeah,... Yeah,... Go on ahead! I deserve it.

I went on to win Slant 6 anyway, so Shut Up Cookie!! :P

The weather forecast really put a whoopin' on the car count this year and we only had 7-8 cars, so we worked it out with the track to cut their always generous purse of $400 Win, $200 Runner Up and $80 Semis in half. That was agreeable to everyone.

They sure do treat us well at Clay City. Jared Kennon (Track manager) and I will start working on ideas for making the 2013 Mopar Show and Slant 6 Race something bigger & better.

I can't wait to do this again!!! :D
