The engine and tranny have been sitting out on the trailer for over a week now... :(

I need to find a Harbor Freight Tools and pick up another ram for my engine hoist... I can't find a local tool rental place that has hoists to rent.

I drove to Louisville at lunch today to pick up another ram for my engine hoist. Hopefully I'll get to swing by the garage after work tonight and get the engine/tranny off the trailer and into the garage.

Engine and tranny are in the garage now! :D

I'll start the disassembly soon.

Finally time to get some "Slant" under my fingernails. :D

It only snowed three times and rained twice while the engine and trans were out on the trailer (covered with a tarp)

It probably wasn't the smartest thing to climb all over the trailer covered with three inches of snow to get the engine/tranny and dolly off all by myself. The engine/tranny was easy once I got all the frozen tie-down straps off. Manhandling the tow dolly up over the fenders and off the trailer in the snow by myself could have lead to disaster. All is good though. Nothing a few Ibuprofen can't take care of

I got the engine and tranny apart and the engine is on the stand now! :D

I'm planning on spending some quality time at the garage this evening after work.

I've got the number of a local machine shop to take the head to and see if sticky valves on the #2 cylinder is causing the bent pushrod issue.

I'll have a local tranny shop go through the trans.

Frank said they have raced it about 30 times and whenever a pushrod would jump out and make its way down to the oil pan he would just leave it there, so...

How many pushrods will I find down there?
1.
2.
3.
More?

Should I replace the cam and lifters since it is very likely that when the lifters jumped out they could have been put back on a different lobe?

I'm hoping not to have to tear the engine COMPLETELY apart, but this is starting to feel like 7 years ago...

Charrlie, I will gladly give you which ever one you want! :D

Tell you what: You come to the banquet in a couple weeks and I will give it to you there. I'll let you take your pick.

Don't touch cam. Might be good to pull oilpan and fish out pushrods, but they probably won't hurt anything. Guides sticking or too tall sounds like the culprit to me.

I will be dropping the pan and pulling the head this evening. I will check all of the lifters and cam to see if there are any obvious wear issues. More to follow and thanks for the replies. :D

I only got the valve cover off... Got a little side-tracked this weekend with other things.

At least it has all 12 pushrods and rocker arms in place up top... Still anxious to see what lurks beneath...

The head is off now. I have everything lined up in order. I'll take it to the banquet next week to get some "professional advice".

I'll pull the oil pan soon and see how many pushrods are down there...

I dropped the oil pan...

Only 1 pushrod down there, but boy was it in bad shape! It had bounced around down there quite a bit. It's twisted like a pretzel and in a bunch of pieces.

I haven't pulled any rod or main caps to check the bearings yet. Hopefully they are okay.

I see some spots on the bottom of a couple pistons where the pushrod had kissed 'em pretty good, but nothing too major so far.

I'll clean it up real good, pull a couple caps to check bearings and report back. I'll try to post a picture of the mangled pushrod.

I'm leaving right after work tomorrow night to head down to Georgia to pick up my air compressor and '72 Dart. Then I might make another trip down there for the Turismo before the banquet if I'm not too tired.

I'll report back in after I get back from the banquet.

I got the Dart home okay, but the bad weather in TN and KY made my 5 hour trip home take 9 1/2! Definitely the most tense driving experience I've ever had.

I got home last night at 10 p.m., so I didn't turn right back around and go get the Turismo like I had planned.

I took the head with me and asked Gerald to check it out. It might be the valve springs binding that is causing the bent pushrod issue.

He's going to go through the head real good and look at a different set of springs.

I took today to recover and tuck the Dart into it's new garage. I'll head down to Maynardville in the morning and then on to the banquet tomorrow afternoon/evening.

Great weekend! :D The banquet was a blast. It was SOOOO great to see the "Slanted Family" and just hang out and "Talk Slant".

The Bruner's shop should be okay with some more clean-up. I'll post an update to the thread in Social Corner.
