You could have a boost leak somewhere, make sure everything is sealed tight. That would explain the 3 psi loss. I would just lock the timing in at 18*. Brpv shouldn't be necessary in a low boost application. Mess around with the secondaries and see if that will clean up your afr. 8 psi will feel really good man. If you think it's 15's running like $#!+ you might be able to get into the low 14's with a good tune. Are you planning to stay at 8 psi?
everything is tight i checked and double checked. that was my first thought. i set my distributor up today. 12* initial with 6* mechanical. kept the vacuum advance. im getting a friend of a friends jet kit tomorrow so ill definitely be changing them out. it runs good its just the numbers dont look good. if i didnt have an a/f gauge i probably wouldnt change anything. good thing i do. no im not staying at 8lbs. unless i run a 13 something in the quarter with 8 but i doubt it. probably gonna find out where the max is on this turbo and then dial it back a little and keep it that way. for a while at least. my goal going into this was to beat a friend of mines 400ci pontiac grand prix @ 14.18 (completely stock w/headers) so i was shooting for mid 13s to keep ahead of him for a while till he got tired of my tail lights but he wound up scrapping the car.

On 8 lbs you should be able to land a high 13 if you can hook and get the weight down.

that would be cool. im gonna get the afr taken care of and start turning it up pretty quick. maybe tomorrow if i can get the numbers where i want them

That's cool about making your own carbon panels that would be awesome! I know my fathers friend has a big power big block dart and he just spent a lot of money for custom carbon fiber fenders. Good luck with it let us know how it comes out!

I'm sure you've covered this somewhere and I'm just missing it but is your motor stock Internally? Any cam or head work?

I know these engines, like a lot of straight sixes just respond really well stock to a moderate amount of boost, but so you plan on any internal mods even if just for a little more power/longevity ?

Keep it up man I'm following this puppy real closely I love it!

its gonna be quite a while before i start making body panels. gotta save up the funds and start getting the equipment.

i have a comp 264s cam and 340 valve springs. other then that its all stock. i did put fresh rings in it last season. gonna keep it stock. there are people on this board that have gone to 27psi on stock parts so as long as i keep my tune good i should be ok.

Gotcha, well I'm gonna be around for a long time, I plan on doing alot to mine and hopefully fab a blow through turbo setup for it in the future after much R+D as well as building the motor a bit as well. I want to do a cam, slightly OS valves, springs, hesd shave for a bit more comp and to compensate for a thicker gasket.

Other than that my money is mostly gonna go into suspension/steering/brakes.

Hopefully I can learn enough from your build, this site ans some general turbo "text books" and that website you linked me to do it on my own!

sounds like a recipie for a fun car. ive already redone my suspension. new springs in the back new shocks. i do plan on getting some bigger torsion bars sooner or later. brakes are a must. i went with disc front and huge drums in the rear and all new lines all around.

That's my plan for brakes too :) maybe Wilwoods someday upfront for autocrossing and I want the 10 or 11 inch drums out back then if I upgraded to big Wilwoods I'd change the back to single piston discs.

Drums are cool tho easy as hell to rebuild and reliable as long as they're not the majority of your stopping power

thats the key. once you are doing 120+ and need to stop and the pedal does nothing you will never look back at drums being adequate for anything other then the rears.

so today was more or less fruitless. i put my brpv in it was worth .5 richer a/f. also took the vent tube extension out of the primaries. cruise is still pig rich. gonna take the vent tube extension out of the secondaries tomorrow and jet them up. might throw the vent tube back on the primaries. or just leave both of them off and see if i can get it done with the jets.

If you're rich at cruise with the power valve closed and the float level is correct then the main jets are too large.

it was good the other day. i think its the vent tube extension in the secondaries. im gonna pull it and see what happens. before i put it in i was at 14.5-15 at cruise.

mostly good update. i finally got my arf's close enough for my liking. wound up doing it with jets. boost referenced power valve is out. standard 6.5 is back in. vent tube extensions are out. wound up with a 86 secondary and 76 primary. cruise afr is shot (dead rich 10.0) but the important one is great. punch it and it goes to 13, as soon as the boost comes on it drops to 11.5 pretty fast. end of second it drops a little further down to 11.2 but i can live with that and i think my motor can too. finally got to stay in 3rd for a little while and it pulls good. think im gonna up the boost and see if i can keep everything good. gonna shoot for 8psi on the gauge maybe 10psi.

new problem. with my carb hat off car runs/idles fine. hook the hat up and it starts dripping from the boosters. float level doesnt change anything. ill figure this out later. i can race it the way its running now and that is what i was looking for short term.
