I guess that is a Holley 1 bbl BOV?? Nice.

Today I worked on additional mock-up stuff. Re-shaped the dipstick tube.
Since I will temporarily run i a draw through on the one barrel carb I fabbed up an intake to mount the carb to the turbo.
I hope temporary means no more then about breaking in the cam. You will never get the AFR even close with that setup. Ask me how I know.
I did my draw through in 1979, and the first carb was the 1920. Then a BBD, next a Webber side draft, the best was a 500 holley 2 bbl.
Also does your turbo have a positive oil seal? If not you will suck oil out of the turbo during closed throttle use.

Temporary means I'm going to bolt this stuff on to the existing motor in the pickup. Only long enough to sort out the data input channels for the LM-2 data logging and inputs for the Megasquirt. And also make sure I don't have vacuum leaks or any other little problems that would put me off track when I start tuning the fuel injection.

I'll only be running maybe 2-3 psi of boost with the carburetor. I'm confident I will be able to get the jetting acceptably close for the limited amount of testing I'll need to do.

Yeah, oil out of the turbo. That is definitely a concern. I've seen special sealing rings for the Holset but have not yet chased one down. I guess I'd better get on that.

Interesting idea to use the carb as a "pre tuning" tool for the EFI.

I just want to eliminate as many variables as I can before I throw in the zillion or so FI variables. I like doing the development work but I hate chasing my tail.

Rubber hose next to the exhaust side of the turbo? Wouldn't a silicone hose take the heat better?

Maybe the angle of the photo doesn't show that there is plenty of room for air flow. The turbo will probably get a blanket as well.
If you read up on it you will see that regular silicone hose is not rated for the hot oil of a turbo return line. There are some special silicone hoses that have an inner liner specifically for hot oil but I could not find any in the correct size without buying 20 times more than I need.

Anyway, the main thing is that I got the fitting installed in the pan and modified the fitting on the turbo to have a bit of angle to it. The hose itself can be changed at any time.[/i]

Alright I just dont want to see it go up in flames. I had an S2000 I put a turbo on and made the mistake of not using stainless lines for the oil feed/return. It didn't last long....

I would think braided Line Would be appropriate for the return line also..

I would not trust just the hose if it were me.

Cant wait to see it fired up and blasting down the roads and track!

Got the head back from the machine shop.
New guides, seats cut for Enginebuilder oversize valves.
Time to measure the chambers and adjust as necessary.

After a bit of working I have the chambers CC'd at:
1 - 63.2
2 - 63.6
3 - 63.2
4 - 63.7
5 - 63.7
6 - 63.1

Within 1%. I can be happy with that.

Getting started on putting the block back together I've immediately run into a snag with the cam bearings.
Details are in this separate thread --> http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=57469

Having solved my cam bearing problem I moved on to modifying the piston domes. I have a set of 87.5mm Keith Black 2.4 turbo pistons with -18cc domes. Here I've got one on the mill. When it's done the dome will be -23cc.
