Mike used Comp religiously. He also designed his own lobes and had a contact at Comp who was a very successful 6 cylinder racer. I doubt if he is still there. I've had and still have some of the cams Mike had made. Most are not for the timid. Comp has changed hands a couple times in the last 10 or so years, and the last new owner isn't overly concerned with quality. Lucky for me I have enough cams to last the rest of my days. |

For a 3500-6000+ powerband it is hard to beat an old Clifford 300M. Don't scrimp on converter and gears and it will definitely haul the mail. In all seriousness, the biggest reason a lot of cans won't perform is getting gun shy on the converter. You can experiment with lobes all you want, but with a crap head and tiny bore like we're stuck with there won't be much difference between a Chevy lobe and a Mopar one. |

Dennis, I am with you on believing that the right converter will make a difference. But at least with cams, I can comprehend and make a relationship between: duration, lift, LSA and ICL and figure out what makes sense for the engine being built. With converters, if I have this right, you tell the manufacturer your engines peak torque and HP, vehicle weight, and maybe tire size and gear ratio and then the magic happens. There seems to be a lot more hodo vudu when it comes to getting the right torque converter. |

Agreed that most people are too shy about the converter. In my experience, Andre at Edge has built the closest to my specs (twice) and they hit my expectations. Lou |

I am watching this with interest. I am curious to see the outcome of his slant six efforts. I am not quite on board with some of his ideas, but we shall see how it all gells in the results. |

I think it's interesting for sure. It appears to be a reasonably serious effort to build a relatively powerful slant six. Usually, outside of this board all I see is your basic rebuild with some off the shelf stuff from summit slung at it. This one is a low buck effort with a lot of work put into it. Let's see some ETs! |

Fer Sher!!  Dennis put me in contact with the feller from the IHRA that wants to put a Slant 6 class together for a Mopar event in Missouri possibly around June. He told me that Uncle Tony was "all in" for it... So there's that... if anyone is interested... With UT's parts selection and focus on low range torque I wonder how it will effect his top end. It might kinda die off at the top end... I dunno.

He hit mine dead on too. 4000 stall. Plus he was super to talk to on the phone. I didn't really know what I was asking other than I wanted to get into the 12's, and wanted it to be bulletproof if I hit it with a 300 shot of nitrous!!!  ( Not sure why that last part was even considered). I never plan to run nitrous, but you never know!

I just saw on YouTube that UT is looking for two 67-69 170s and only those specific years. Why would that be, crankshaft registry? Charlie will know. |
