Talk to me Bagel we know what should fly in the street car champoin. We need to decide what our group wants and go there. We don't need a quick 16 car field if we want to support our group. What we need are new people with slants that will race with us and have a good time and have a chance of winning something. We have talked about this over and over, I want to expand our program to as many slant/six people that can race with us. So folks throw them ideas out and lets see if we can make our group the best the promoters want to see. Thanks Possum Parker Ps Bagel, I talked to Seymour today and he told me that Ron Hamby, Mike Jefferys, Will Burns, Charles Myers, Dale Rose, Barry Harrison, And Team Green, all have bamboozers on there cars and i need to get one for my car. I'm calling Jegs tonite for a 225 bamboozler for gas. Thanks Possum Parker I want one of them bamboozlers |

Quote: Tom, I don't quite understand your thinking that the fastest car will be the one with the most money thrown at it. By your own admission you have the most expensive car in the Slant series and you're not the fastest now, are you? Besides, so what if the fastest street car has a turbo or a bottle on it? Speed costs money, how fast you wanna spend?
Yes we have probably spent more money on our car than most. Were we trying to be the fastest slant 6 --no. We were building a bracket car that could compete in H/R and maybe even the Q/R 9.90/6.40 class as well as be competitive on a weekly basis at the local tracks. My point is this...do you really think that a heads-up street class will attract more racers? If so how many 1, 2..? I just don't think creating a class that will cost $$$ to be competitive is the answer. Since we can not afford to run two purses then a seperate street class is not the answer either. Seperating the two types(footbrake and Pro) seems like the most logical choice. Tethclaw has already stated that he does want to run a delay box car so if we can minimize this maybe we could attract more racers like him. If we attract 10 more footbrakers now our cars counts are approaching 30 at a few races...wow! Do you think a heads-up street class will attract 10 new racers? If so for how long if they are 2 secs off the fastest car? Having an award for the fastest street car in attendance might be a good idea. At least any $$ you give would help cover gas to the race. Dennis - Let me ask you this, What is it going to take to get you to attend more slant 6 races. You are the type of racer that we should also be trying to appeal to, someone who races a slant 6 now and would add greatly to our group. I know of two racers in NC that currently run at tracks every weekend and I have not had much luck getting them out either. Keep these ideas flowing.....this is exactly what we need to make this deal better!! ![]() Tom |

Tom, my idea with a Fastest street car class has nothing to do with making the Slant races bigger. The only purpose for it is just to find out who has the fastest Slant street car in the country, no more, no less. Expanding the series itself would be as easy as splitting street cars from race cars until the final four. What would it take to get me to more races? Getting RT66 to put up a schedule that didn't conflict with every Slant race we had for one. I am first and foremost a bracket racer and my goal every year is to make the Bracket Finals. |

I am new to the Slant Six, am building a 72 gold duster. Just made my first passes at Norwalk this weekend. I have a slow street car. 18.835 at 71.25 MPH. It is stock except for a supersix and headers. I don't have the money to go fast, but in time my duster will be a 15 second car. Now as far as getting more people to the track, it will happen, as long as we can get the events to buy in. I was annoyed that Norwalk had a Viper class for 6 vipers, but no /6 class. I got into this because I can't afford a v8 car, and I have to drive my car to the track, if you want more people to come to the races be patient, get more events (especially Norwalk, love the track), and keep in touch and welcome the newbies. Slowly you are getting more respect. My father-in-law is a Max Wedge Racer, he is the one that talked me into keeping my car a slant to race. Slowly you are gaining the respect of the MOPAR community, and with that respect will come more cars. I could care less if I race a street car or all out racer. I am there to have fun. And this weekend, I had to 5 lights so, bring on your boxes. |

What do you think about having a North and South Division and as more races come about you could create new divisions. Have three of your four races come from in your "division" and one of the four from out of division. For Example: South division would included North Wilkesboro, Ga and Bristol. Then CC or Columbus or Hamilton could count as your out of division race. You must declare a division at the beginning of the year. Tom |

Hey Everyone - looks like I missed some good discussion here. I like Tom's idea of the division races (N and S), although most of the top guys will already make 1 or more "non-local" race anyway. Selfishly, I wouldn't mind a "fastest street car" award at most or all races, since the two races I made with my '64 this year, I was the fastest. However, the goal of one big street shootout a year would be more interesting. Of course, the boosted/NOS cars will beat me, but it'll be fun to run and watch. I'll recopy this in the street car topic. Tethclaw - what you are asking about show/tech happening at the races already exists informally and is a ton of fun. I would go to some races even if I couldn't race! You get practice runs too, so even if you lose the eliminations, you get to run your car quite a bit (5-10 for a Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun race. If you come out, you will not regret it as these guys are some of the coolest I have met and you will see some amazing cars. Lou |
