I just did Sealed power NP244 +0.060" over....for comparison they were 608g with 'da pin.

No weight. We will find out when we get them. My guess is lighter than stock or stock replacements as they are designed by modern performance piston folks and they are forged.

I just spoke with our contact with Icon and he will get a real $$ quote next week and then we can place the order soon after. I may order a few extra sets on the idea that a few people here will buy them in the near future, but no promises...

Thanks Greg, do you know pin weight?

On this set pins were 126.4g

Are these pistons compatible for 170 engine? Just stock compression height but no more? It is hard to find small bore blocks nowadays. I have 0.060” pistons in mine and my spare block is already bored to this size. A 0.085” set would be nice plan for the future. As well the forged material sounds good for boost applictions.

They have extra meat in the top deck of the piston and it can be milled off (about 0.070") to get stock comp ht piston. They also have deep valve reliefs.

Here is a picture of a 3D printed model of the piston.

Not sure what is going on with the image posting/link, so here is the link:

It should be easy to mill off the part you do not want if you want to lower CR for a turbo, 170, etc. Note the valve reliefs are really deep, so you can go wild with cams.

Compared to the stock flat piston how much/less volume this forged piston has?

In a 170 engine Sealed Power cast pistons came almost on the deck. And it makes with a blueprint milled head about 8-8.5 compression. If the valve reliefs are more than added material at the spark plug side the result will be even lower compression than stock. A 170 can not be milled. I dont want to get an engine I have lurk from crank side to see if the head pockets are well localized to the block!

In my 170 turbo engine I have stock compression and it is pretty ok for me.

And have you already set the group order?

I will be making the final decision and order next week, assuming we can get a real quote quickly from Icon pistons.

My feeling is that you can either leave the quench pad (to right of valve reliefs in this pic) alone, or and/or mill less off that or the main piston deck to compensate for the big valve reliefs. I do not have volumes. You will definitely have to mill down this piston somewhere for a 170 engine. It does seem like the valve reliefs would help you for a 170 if you want to run a decently large cam. Maybe no reason for your boosted applications...

A custom set of forged pistons to your specs will probably run around $1000-1200, so that might be a better avenue? I have never done that, but will likely try it (CP pistons or JE or someone like that) for one of my upcoming engine builds.

Yes I think so. And a half dozen of tubes for cylinders to get std bore is an option.

Starting to finalize this. We should have a final quote and will go ahead and place the order in the next few days or a week.

Thanks everyone!

Hey Lou, do you expect to get a drawing or spec sheet on the pistons before they ship?

I may have a drawing soon, yes.

More info on pistons:
- 1.84" compression height of piston and smallish 0.070" quench dome on the eyebrow side of the valve reliefs. Can mill off a bunch to get whatever compression ratio you want.
- quote on price now looks firm that we will be right about at $500/set (w/o shipping).
- have some ring pack info but will have to look it up again.

Getting close to making the final order. I will have to put down 50% for them to start making the pistons.

Thanks again,
Lou
