I’ve spent some time working on the Challenger lately.

I’m hoping to get it ready for the Slant 6 race at the end of August.

I’ve re-mounted the external oil pump and made some braces to secure the front engine mount more securely.

I still have quite a bit to do.

Re-mount the fuel cell
Re-mount the radiator
Source and mount a smaller/lighter water pump.
Go through the wiring and move a couple things around
Have exhaust pipes made and installed for the shortie headers
Replace the rear shocks
Modify the hood scoop for clearance for the evacuation hoses.
Stock the fridge with Miller Lite for Howard.

We got back from Hawaii today. I spent a couple hours tonight making a game plan for moving the fuel cell and radiator on the Challenger.

I stopped by the muffler shop and talked to Jerry Reed. He’s a local racer that runs the shop. Good guy.
He’ll hook me up with down tubes as soon as I’m ready.

I got the oil pump, oil filter, fuel cell all re-mounted. I’m deciding which of three radiators to mount now.

I wanted to use the lightest one, but I think it’s going to be the easiest mounting one for Clay City.

My re-working things ain’t real purdy the way Howard likes it, but it’ll git the job dun fer Clay City.

Oops!

It’s 3:45 AM….

But I made a lot of progress today!

I decided on a different radiator, moved the electric fan over and mostly figured out all the mounting and hose routing. I need some different hoses, etc. The radiator I switched to IS about a pound lighter than the one I removed, so that’s cool.

When I ran out of materials and talent to continue that I moved to the wiring. I put the MSD box back in and started chasing wires…. I started seeing nothing but red (because all the wires are red)… That’s when I looked at my phone and saw the time.

I want to keep going, but I should get some sleep. I made a list for tomorrow.

I’m happy with the progress I’ve made so far. This car might make it to Clay City after all!

Reduce, Re-use, Recycle, etc…

Them little MR2s I parted out have lots of curvy little, small diameter radiator hoses…

I got me some Doo Dad Delights tasks to attend to… Then I’ll get back on the Challenger.

Big Mike the Master Faberkater came to the rescue yesterday and welded in the tabs for the front engine mount brackets.

I fiddled quite a bit with mounting the water pump,… but at the end of the evening I took it back out. It was maybe just a bit too hoakie… even for me…

I dropped the Challenger off at the exhaust shop this morning.

Making progress.
