Finally got the the headers and intake off the car and jacked everything over and got Doc's oil pump out. I got the "super" mini starter modifications done and modified the one bolt hole in the block to accept a countersunk bolt. Everything bolts up nice and I will likely run the Hyperpak exhaust at least for the first half of the season. This will give me a comparison to the long tube headers that I was running. That will be some good info to have. I may swap in my new big bore motor after the second race of the season. Time will tell. Link to starter mods http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... 4&start=75 Hope to have the car all back together this week and then get it over to my exhaust guy and have him route the new exhaust into a flowmaster Y pipe that I have. It will be 2 -2 1/8" inlets and a 2 1/2" single outlet. Then the wrecked truck comes into the garage for rebuild! Yes I am behind schedule! Rick |

I need to get my eyes examined! The Hyperpak only has 1 7/8" outlets, so the down pipes will be 2" and the outlet of the flowmaster Y pipe is 3", and it will end up just about were my Clifford long tubes ended up.I have the exhaust manifolds mounted and the Clifford intake mounted. It all looks pretty sweet to me. I had to grind a little casting flash off between the manifolds to get them all to slide together. One thing to note is these exhaust manifolds were probably the easiest manifolds / headers I have ever installed. There was room to get a socket on every nut except one and that one was easy to reach up under and get with a wrench. I am sure it was easier since I am not using the long Hyperpak intake. (I'm sure that makes Slantzilla happy!) Also, although they do not bolt to the Clifford manifold, they are about a 1/2"-3/4" away from it for a good ways and should transfer some heat up under the manifold. I also bolted up an old Weiand 4 barrel manifold that I had and it fits with these exhaust manifolds too. I did not have an Offy 4 barrel or a 2 -1 barrel to try with it. More to come! Rick |

Got all the other accessories on the engine this morning and installed the distributor. Fired it up, and off one tooth. Tried again off one tooth other way. Third time is the charm! Fired right up and brought it up to temperature. I built a little heat shield to protect my starter and some wires until it goes to the shop to get exhaust pipes and flowmaster Y pipe. Man is this thing loud under the hood with the Hyper paks. Literally an ear piercing pitch for some reason. Much louder that the headers! Probably because they are so short. Also the "super" mini planetary starter does indeed work like a charm. It has its own little "sound as well. Now I can get the truck into the garage and start the destruction - I mean re-assembly on it! More to come. Rick |

Cool! I bet they will be quieter than the headers once you have pipes on there. I would love to have a set for my driver V2 Valiant... Lou |

I am surprised you don't have a set Lou. You seem to collect all the weird/cool stuff. |

Not at those typical prices. Rick is looking at repro'ing them, though! That would be way cool... Lou |

The race car is ready for this season with the new Hyper pak manifolds. The only change I plan to make is to put in new fuel and maybe change the metering rods a step. I am anxious to see how they run compared to the same car last year. I am building a new "real" race motor and just picked up the short block from over at Ryan's and brought it home. I pulled the crank and cam / oil pump out and found a really nice Std crank that probably would not even need a regrind, and a nice oil pump gear and cam gear. This is a 74 block. Crank will get a little de-burring and then it will be going to Kriner's Racing Engines to get re-ground and then balanced. I will do some block prep, and install the lifter drain back stand pipes, tap the oil galley and get it ready to go to the shop too. Wiesco / K1 stuff along with the Rollmaster timing set is on the shelf. Jeffrey head should be done any day. So I may have the new race motor ready for the second half of the season. Rick Rick |

I know you are excited about building the long awaited "big" motor. Half of the fun is the anticipation of how quick it will run. Ron |

For sure! Plus if it runs a 12.99 right away, I might just have to retire from racing!! My lifetime goal would be met. Mike implied that going 12.99 in my car would be just like falling off a log. Rick |

So, I need to sabotage your big motor Rick so you won't retire from racing? Well, once you go 12.99, you'll probably feel like 11.99 is the next thing... Lou |
