The car ran flawless all weekend. The driver? Not so much! :lol: :lol:

I went back and looked at the race times from last Oct. when we raced. And then my car was running 15.40"s all weekend. This weekend I ran made 6 runs and they were: 15.74, 15.65, 15.63, 15.57, 15.48. 15.46 all in pretty bad weather. So all in all, throwing out the 15.7 run which was in near "rain" conditions. the Hyperpaks ran within a tenth or 2 of the long tube Cliffords.

I will post this over in the Hyperpak thread for people to see it there.

Hyperpaks will be removed this week and replaced with my long tubes.

I brought this over from the Hyperpak thread since it involves my car.

"Just another little bit of info for you performance junkies! At Wilkesboro last weekend I made almost 20 runs on my car, which now has my long tube Cliffords back on. I pulled the May, Mason- Dixon time slips and compared the 1/8 mile times to the Wilkesboro times and they were almost exactly the same. My runs were 9.70 to 9.90 range at both tracks. Again, the car was run identical except for the removal of the Hyperpaks. I think this reaffirms that they will run almost exactly the same as headers on a mild race motor or street car."


I cut quite a few .0XX lights and only 2 red lights all weekend. One of them was an .004 red. Cutting decent lights is all about repetition. And with my car and mild set-up I can run 4 or 5 back to back runs without a problem, and that is what I did. It helps to get into a routine.

Today I picked up the crankshaft that will go into my new big bore motor. It was ground, micro polished, cleaned and bagged! It is setting in the shop with my new Jeffrey head. I will soon have my Dutra oil pump and with just a few hours worth of work on the block, I should be about ready to haul everything back to Kriner's Racing Engines for the actual build.

Now if I did not have 3 other projects to do, it would all go pretty quick!

While I was walking through Carlisle I spied a really nice set of long tube headers for my car. The only difference between these and the ones currently in the car are that they are the the 1 5/8" tubes instead of the 1 1/2" ones I have now. I figure that if I want to get a 12.XX time slip I better buy them. They look nice in the garage beside the head and the crank!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

I have been collecting parts for my next big bore engine since the demise of Big Bore I in Oct of 2013. I dropped a lot of parts off at Kriner's Racing Engines back in November. This past week Ryan and I stopped up to see the progress on our engines and to drop off some more parts.

My engine is bored and ready for final honing and then assembly. Once the block was straightened (deck was out .018 front to back) the pistons were .010 out of the hole. They will assemble one piston and install the head to check for valve to piston interference. With that checked they will make any "adjustments" to the pistons that is needed. Then the final assembly can take place. It sounded like my engine could be ready very shortly. I will be dropping off the honing plate that Greg so graciously shipped to me tomorrow. Then I will have to decide if I install this right now or wait until after the June Wilkesboro race. Much may depend on how Patti is doing.

I am starting to get just a little bit more excited. :lol: :lol:

That sounds like Super Slanted Phun. These things take time and it sounds like good progress at the machine shop. Did they have progress on Ryan's Blue Car motor too?

Yes they are making progress on his too. But he may be ordering some custom pistons for his build so it may take a little longer than mine. Should be racing it this year though.

I believe I have decided to wait until the summer to install the new motor. I want to move the battery to the trunk, install a modified K frame, build a new oil pan and install a new V-8 center link. I would have to push pretty hard to get it done in time for Mason Dixon. So probably after the Wilkesboro race would be the right time to install it.

The v8 centerlink is a bit lower in the middle than the /6 version (63-65, IIRC). I think all the 66 c'links are the deeper version. I just got a V8 c'link for my 64 Dart but haven't eyed up the difference yet.

Rick, sounds like the right choice to hold off and enjoy the ride until June, then switch over.

Rick your comment about waiting till after Wilkesboro possibly tells me two things. 1. You intend to come to Wilkesboro which is good. You have been here the last few years. 2. You don't want to miss races because you might like to set the traveling trophy on your mantel this fall. That would be good as well.
I need to check on the V8 center section too if it gives more clearance. Mine don't rub but is very close to the pan. Can the original be changed to a V8 one without any other pieces being changed? Do you know if new V8 ones can be had?

V-8 link supposedly has an inch drop. That should be enough to clear a late A pan.

Not sure if you can get new ones or not. Rockauto maybe?

My understanding is that all 66 A-bodies had the drop link, V8 and Slant 6. So if you have a stock link it should be already dropped. I am not sure, this is just heresay/recollection from others.

I have heard the same thing; however, I've parted out 2 66 slant 6's - a Barracuda and a Dart GT. Both had the standard slant center link in it and both were definitely all original. Possibly using up old stock/assembly plant/hard to say why.
