If you get impatient, you could try a Florida vacation.

I could but I have a next years engine project "cooking" here. It is very interesting and has completely captured my attention. Been to SS BTW many times. Very nice spot. Don |

i have had the idea on my mind since i watched the movie several years ago. Started at it once back then by beginning to make the mold and perfect the burner set up.I got discouraged and put it aside. Was doing something else and needed some simple aluminum castings. I dragged my gear out and took a shot at pouring them. They turned out real well so i started hunting for my old half finished piston mold. i found it after a day of looking and poured a couple just to see . Then I machined one up compleltely. I was so encourged I went on from there working to perfect the mold , the core, the pour , etc. I need at least six and would prefer to have two spares too. I have four good ones so far. It is not easy. They are either perfect or junk. Doesnt seem to be any middle ground. Sure is fun though! Don |

I was thinking the same as Josh. Are you off to the salt flats? |

http://seniordragster.bravehost.com/Projects.html About 5/8ths of the way down the page is the first trial machining I did of the second piston. I revamped the mold several times till I was happy and then poured the rest. I actually now have 12 usable. Although 8 are like I wanted them to be four have minor but not structural imperfections and could be used. I cast 17 in all. A few were pure scrap. Re the salt. I have thought of that also. I have been there but not during speed weeks. I have a longer wheelbase rail under construction as a time flller deal. I asked my wife" if I wanted to run this motor in the new rail at the salt would you go." Without a moments hesitation she said yes. However this is just something I am doing for fun now. My Sr Dragster really has my full attention and respect. It is more fun than I ever dreamed it would be and I want to go tens which is now not too far away from reality. Don |

I have been rewoking the piston mold between other projects. i am at that frustrating point where it is almost the way i want but not quite. Seems to take longer to get the last tiny bit than the first whole deal but that is life. Meanwhile i have to feshen the valve springs and install a 6200 rpm govenor kit in my trans. I am also going to rebuld my headers , longer and smoother. Don |
