Not really. Almost all of the currently-available stock-type mufflers are meant for cars with catalytic converters and with engines of other than inline-6 configuration. The cat makes the muffler's job easier, and an inline-6 engine sets up particularly difficult-to-control booms.

Eh? I'm not seeing a bolt-on inlet or bracketry on the 21357 (for 4-litre Cherokees except late production 2000), but I am on the different muffler for the late-production 2000 models. In any event, unneeded brackets and such can easily be cut off or modified as necessary. I was amazed at how well and neatly my installers made such a much-bigger-than-stock muffler fit my '71 (tho annoyed they couldn't wouldn't make a 2¼" headpipe all the way to the flange — not the first time I've run into this, and even Hemi Anderson's A-number-1 exhaust guy routinely requested the top of a factory 2¼" headpipe for slant-6 system buildups).

I just did a google search of Walker 21357 and it comes up with entries with pics of a muffler with a bunch of brackets and what looks like a bolt-up flange on a curved pipe. I guess it's probably just a stock image or something.

The first entry is http://frugalmechanic.com/auto-part/523 ... w3-muffler with the pic. But again it's probably just a generic photo they use from the Walker site.

Ultimately, are dual 21206's something you'd recommend? or would you not recommend it after using it on your 71? I'm just weary of the Flowmaster sound and I'm looking for more subtlety without the loss of flow.

Off topic kinda, but would an exhaust shop do straight pipe back from the engine, no muffler? It might sound dumb but would they not do if it came into conflict with a local law or something?

Use a reliable source for accurate images - www.napaonline.com or www.rockauto.com , for example.

Straight pipe might be fun for fifteen minutes — then would get very old, very fast.

Yeah i know, just wondering if they would do it...I Dont really take long trips, and only drive in the city so im usually never going faster than 40 or so

The City is the best place to get pulled over. Most areas have a muffler requirement too. Check your State motor vehicle laws. Chances are if it's road registered it needs a muffler.

I think that's a generic picture. I've seen that same picture (or mirror image) for different mufflers.
