I believe it ran a 14.94 and that new found .10 was likely due to the 60 pounds less weight in the car with Ryan driving!

Car has ran the last 3 seasons without a hitch and it may actually make an appearance in the race truck. Not totally sure.

I surmise that that tenth was due to the spectular Air, Good Barometric Press, Average Humidity and Lower temps!

Post subject:  January 2017 update

I have been working on Andrew Shanks 4X4 for the last couple months and am just now getting ready to start on the install of my new race motor.

I had a new Jeffrey Windage tray in my car when it went Kaboom back in 2013. Look at the picture and tell which one of these I should use!

I happened to have access to a new Jeffrey tray that was not in a car yet. (Thanks Ryan) Since Mike is no longer building new ones I made a pattern off of the good one and I had my paint guy, Robbie, bend me a new one and weld it up. I still need to cut some more slots in it but it came out really nice.

Once I get the tray mounted and fitted, I will bolt on a later model F body pan and cut the bottom out of it. I plan to have Robbie bend me up a new enlarged bottom for the pan. Hopefully it will hold about 7 quarts when I'm done.

Purchase a brand new NOS distributor off of E-bay and took it apart and added a limiter plate to lock it in at 16 degrees. With @ 12 initial I should end up at just about 28 degrees total.

Once those items are completed I will pull the existing engine and go to town. New K frame, idler arm, and drop centerlink will go in while the engine is out. Racing season is not too far away!! Greg will want to came and do a test run in March as soon as Mason Dixon opens up. I'd like to be there with him.

I have a Jeffrey pan down at the shop. Unfortunately, I won't be going down there for a week or two.

I also have one of those advance plates I am going to use on my 340. Nice looking piece, we'll see how it works. :D

where do you get those limiting plates? great idea, saves welding filing to get where you want to be.

I got mine from Mancini, but FBO makes them, and I think they are cheaper from FBO.

Made the final cuts in the Windage tray and fitted it to the block.Had to trim about 3/16" off the one edge and then a 60-66 pan and the F body pan dropped on without interference.
Image

Bolted on the scraper and made a few minor trims and it is ready to go!

Very nice work. Looking fwd to M-D race in May. Their site says the 20th for Mopar show. This would be the first year that is not overlapping VT graduation - nice.

I am amazed at how little effort it takes to spin over this long block. I hope that converts to more horsepower.

Try putting a small torque wrench on it and see what the torque is. My cast cranker with wiseco/K1s had 10 ft bls to break it loose, then about 7-8 lbs to keep it turning, all before break in.

Slant on,
Lou

I made a template of the new oil pans shape so I can use it make sure the new pick up is where it needs to be in the pan. New pan with a 1" drop and about a 2" longer sump to the rear should hold an additional 2.3 quarts if my math was correct. I'll pick up the metal on Monday and give the pan to Robbie to work his magic.

Image

Image

The factory pick up is just about 1" off the bottom so that is how much I need to extend it.

Image

I pulled the pick up apart to clean the screen and tube and it was definitely full of 40 years of junk.
Image

After it was all cleaned out I cut another opening in the bottom of the pick up plate. Not sure it needs it but now the oil has two routes to the inlet tube.

Starting to get excited about pulling another perfectly good engine out of my Valiant!

Rick,

Nice work so far on the pan and cleaning.

You will need to extend the pickup a bit more than 1" due to the angle involved there with the Slant and the pan floor.

Also, another pickup hole does not mean more oil. The bigger the area on the pickup, the easier it is to uncover part of the pickup and suck air. Once you get even a tiny bit of the opening(s) exposed to air (no oil, accel, braking, cornering) then air will be drawn up much easier than oil and you will at best have air in your oil and at worst low or no oil pressure. The best thing is to figure out where you can place the hole in the pickup on the floor so that oil slosh does not uncover it.

Oh, is this for your Valiant? If so, I'm not sure you can extend the sump rearward w/o hitting the drag link on hard steering. Did you measure this first? Just want to make sure... If this is a Volare pan, then I think you can. Stock 65 Val pan, nope.

Best,
Lou
