hey there crowd I'm planning to swap my crappy holley ( D/W) 1bbl for a (crappy ) holley 2bbl 2300 model 7448 (350 CFM ?) My car has streetable cam, shaved head, hi-comp pistons, 2" dual ex, mildly ported head (almost nothing) auto trans and 3.07:1 8 1/4" rear end. What size of jets, power valvle and all that stuff should I run? for good mileage yet some pep another Q... if someone out there has some aluminium 2bbl intake maifold, I'd like to get one. I'm planning to customize one, welding a holley plate placed 90° rotated to the engine (bowl pointing valvle cover) maybe I can get away with a 1 bbl aluminium manifold? |

Sometime in the afterlife Dennis is going to be up there with Carter and the Ball brothers throwing bricks at Holley from the other cloud.... (Yet next door is my grandfather beating Henry Ford over the head with a 2X4....) The setup will be fairly straight forward with what you have described. I'd start with #52 jets and an 8.5 power valve. Check your plugs or A/F Ratio meters if cheating that way. You may have to jet 'up' to 54's if not rich enough in the mains, and you might find for economy you can get away with a 6.5 or 7.5 power valve. I currently have one of these ready to try on my '74 for 'kicks' with a 'stock' motor, it's jetted for 56's (too rich), and has the 'economizer' dual power valve (for economy, not to good for power...) that should kick in partially at 10.5 and open up full at 5.5" Hg.... One of these days when I get rich, I'll have to get a slant to dyno and invite Dennis up for a Holley Vs. Carter 'tune off' just to see what carb does what and where (or why?)... -D.Idiot |

Hey DI you gonna see me helping out your grandpa, but I'll get a crowbar The balls brothers man, I'm laughing my a s s off! good thing for mr Holley would be that the bricks that Mr. Carter and D/W will throw over him would be too lean Now seriously, I hate carters just cuz I can't get parts down here (they were all imports and they stopped using carters as soon as local carb company argelite started to produce holleys, solex, weber all licensed but very finely crafted and equally working than original ones. They even re-created the old 1920 and they came up with a stronger, more dependable, efficient (and rich ) carb. No diaphragms, just external parts that you can service removing 3 parts (air filter element, some seger lock, etc) I've read repeatedly on this site that carter gets better mileage but less power than holleys... IMHO and experience holleys (at least, OUR holleys) gets better mileage as well as much more power for the same mpg #'s... I've tried so many times to equal the mpg's I get with a holley and never succeded (using a carter, obviously) I'll get my custom manifold prepared by a local guru called Mr. Penin (Jr) that has a dyno and a very solid experience in building both street and race cars. (by the way, he sez that's harder to build a good street car than a racer cuz on a daily driver the mods are to be done w/o compromising driveability) His Father worked for Ford, Chevrolet and Chrysler (yep, you're reading rite) back in the '70 producing our line of "muscle" cars (not as muscled as yours, ) and he developed the 90° rotated holley 2bbl setup in 1967, setup wich had his very own casted intake manifolds (sadly they lost the casting tools for slant six engines...) but he's working on aluminium intakes (doin the weld thing and many other tricks) bottomline of all this blah is that since he's working mainly with race cars nowadays, he has dyno, so if I can afford that (or afmopar) I'll be satifying my curiosity. |

If you are serious, I would be VERY interested in an Argentinian Holley 1 barrel. Didn't you modify that one? Can you get me a stock one?when I pull off my weird argentina 1 bbl, I'll send it to your door. (Believe me) chau, Dennis D/W |

D/W Of course I'm serious ... I'll get a new metering block and main body (since I was planning to get you a stocker anyway) and will send it to you. I have a musician friend (I'm a musician too) who's coming to do a tour with me like in mid september. Send me your adress and he'll send that freakin carb once he's back up there. Just for contributing to cure your holleyitis |
