I have very rigid and exacting requirements for parts that I buy. It helps avoid extreme emergencies where one must take what he can get.

By far, the best set of breaker points available for a '60-'72 (US-market) '67-'72 (Canadian-market) slant-6 with aluminum Chrysler-built distributor is NAPA Echlin CS-851. (not CS-851P!). The differences in materials and build quality are obvious when you hold this set of points in your left hand and any other set in your right hand. The design of the bushing is such that by squeezing it axially very gently, you can attain near-zero sideplay. The non-pierced stationary contact has greater surface area than the pierced type. The composite fibre rubbing block is much longer wearing than Nylon as long as you use the correct (small) amount of the correct lubricant on the distributor cam. This lube is included with these points. I have gotten several *years* of excellent daily running out of ONE set of these points.

A close second is Echlin CS-851P, same points but with the silly pierced fixed contact. This was one of those ideas that sounded great and didn't exactly not work, but also didn't give any of the claimed benefits.

A fairly close third is Standard BlueStreak CH-14XV. I dislike the Nylon rubbing block and the design of the bushing, and that screwy extra lube wick doesn't really do anything.

Condenser: Standard-BlueStreak or NAPA Echlin.

Distributor rotor: NAPA Echlin MO-3000 only.

Distributor cap: Standard-BlueStreak CH-410X only. NEVER an Echlin!

Many people think I'm silly to be this picky. They are welcome to that opinion.

I've heard that modern day "replacement" points are not of the quality of years past.Anyone else???

Well, there have alwez been el cheapo points available... But you'll definitely get the sleazy stuff at your local Idiot Auto Partz... I think they can serve you up the premium stuff if you ask, though. ...or go to a real parts store and get Napa Echlin or Standard Blue Streak or some other good stuff. Look for the solid points (no hole where it is riveted on), a phenolic cam follower (instead of cheesy plastic) and some of the real nice ones even have a wick for lubricating the distributor cam... D/W

Standard Blue Streak!!! The distributer caps even have real brass contacts. Ya can't go wrong. Roger

You might try the pertronix electronic ignition kit. I have it in my 71 truck. Haven't touched it since install 5yrs ago.
