What do you recomend in a 1976 a-833 o/d cast iron case trans.I have a factory service manual for 72 that recomends atf in the 833(except in CA where they still say 80/90 gear lube). when I drained my trans it had gear lube in it. Thanks in advance. HyperValiant |

...all depends on how much power you want to lose in the slush-box... D/W |

If you're average temperature is 'warm' then gear lube would be better. If you're drag racing ATF is the trick, if driving it on the street all the time then 90Wt GL-4 lube is better. The other trick is that the mating surfaces tend to 'warp' a bit and not seal so good after 30 years on these boxes, and ATF will bleed out faster than the 90Wt..... Pick what you feel is the best 'compromise' for what you're going to do with the car. -D.Idiot |

Well, I just put a 75 A833 in a a 65 dart and the shop I bought the parts from said damn near anythin would work, he reccomends with thirty years experience about 20w50 engine oil for moderate climates. |
